| Successful PS surgery! So I haven't been on a while to give an update on Lacy, but for anyone who was keeping an eye out for us, or is worrying about getting the surgery for their dog, I figured I'd let you guys know how everything worked out. Lacy went to Dr. Bohling at the UT small animal clinic at the end of July to investigate and repair a possible shunt (she was completely asymptomatic all her life, so we questioned for a long time whether we should get the surgery, but high bile acid numbers compelled us). She recovered great in the weeks after, except for periodic bouts of vomiting bile. We were worried, so Dr. Bohling told us to go ahead and get the three-month check-up bile acid test a month early. We did that, and Lacy's numbers came in 100% NORMAL. We were absolutely stunned. She went from 155/225 pre- and post- to 7 and 15. Her behavior hasn't really changed since the surgey, because she was a hyper nutball before she got repaired anyway, but she does eat a lot more now. We got to give her chicken and ground beef again, and she was just the happiest little thing. So anyway, that's our happy story, and the prognosis says that Lacy should now have a completely normal life and never know she's got a little metal ring in her tummy. Thanks to everyone for your support, and my family would recommend Dr. Tobias, Dr. Bohling, and their wonderful, caring staff a thousand times over! Here's a pic of Lacy taken during one of our pitstops on the way down the TN . . . she almost had fun! |

| I am so glad to hear that Lacy's BAT are now normal! We just got back from UT yesterday b/c Ginger had her surgery on Friday. Dr. Bohling ended up not finding a shunt while in surgery but we had a wonderful experience while at UT and would recommend them to anyone. Give Lacy a big hug from me.

| What a pretty, happy little girl! So glad the surgery went so well and sounds like you will have many more years of spoiling her. She looks like she's smiling! I have heard really great things about UT and all the doctors there. I haven't had to use them for the dogs but they have saved every alpaca I ever had to take to their large animal hospital. I give them a BIG ! |
