| Ear infection causing throwing up? Last night sami woke me up 5 am he was crying in pain, at first I thought it was constipation, but when i saw him shake his head and then I checked his ears he winced, so I made a appt right away, the DR said he had an ear infection and also wanted to give him his vacine rabbie etc.. also a injection of antibiotic. well since I brought him home from his appt at 10:00 he has been vomiting all day at least every ten to 15 min, it started out as somewhat foamy yellow but more on the scrambled egg looking yellow (sorry) I thought ok he needs to eat so I gave him a little bit of chicken (real) and about a hr 1/2 he threw that up only it was yellow, well as the day went by his throw up started looking a little brownish? so I freeked called the emergency(vet closed at 12) vet and the person I talked to said since he was given medication and a rabbies vacine more than likely that is the problem, ok but what about the bile turning brownish? no answer? told me not to worry, so I would like to know if anyone's yorkie have an ear infection and what symptoms did he or she display? could you please give me your ideas on this?

| It is not the ear infection but the meds along with the other shots..I wish the vet had not done all of those at one time...Upsetting his tummy. What other shots besides rabies did he give?

| If your baby is still throwing up, I would probably take him in for a quick check. You don't want him to get dehydrated. And sometimes vomiting can be a sign of a shot reaction. If it were me I would feel better having someone look at him. I hope he feels better soon.

| the frustrating part now is you do not know if it was the antibiotic shot or your dog had a reaction to rabies vaccine this is why doing too much at once is never a good idea as you cannot narrow down where the problem is - my dog has had two ear infections and only have been prescribed ear ointment -- are your dogs ears red and inflamed? were they plucked by the groomer recently? I am against plucking as the only two times my yorky had an ear infection was after plucking |

| when I brought him in, I brought along his medical records, and his record of injuections and told me he was due, and I did ask is that a good idea since he is sick? he told me it shouldn't bother him. well it has and he is so sick. since I moved here sami hasn't had any illness and I knew his vacines were due, but I didn't have to much of a choice being a saturday and the only vet within 15 miles that was open unitl 12, I don't know this vets record at all, but sami has been sick all day throwing up I am really freaked that he may die if I fall asleep I know I am being a bit obsessive but he is all I have and I am just so worried. I must be overreacting because he has never been this sick. the dr gave him annual dhlpp, 3 year rabies , single injection (antibotic antifungal?) and animax ointment to be put in once a day. i have been giving him water. I never have the groomer pluck his ears Im don't even know why he has an infection? could I give him pedillite? or something like that tomorrow? or chicken soup? I apologize I lost tilly a few months back and I guess maybe I am just over reacting here, well thank you all I am going to take him back to bed he follows me everywhere so that must be a good thing to know I leave him? right. well goodnite thanks again

| no you are not over reacting this vet is an idiot- do not go back to him - he gave your dog all those vaccines with an infection then shot an antifungal antibiotic on top of it seriously i would be furious - these little dogs vaccines need to be broken up -- so since he gave the dhlpp sounds like he gave the lepto in this vaccine which can make them sick alone -- I am so sorry this happened to your dog -- try to feed a little chicken and rice tomorrow and you can add a little pedialyte no flavor to the water -- Never let them give all shots in a little dog at once, if you have to do lepto which i am against then do it 2-3 weeks after other shots and same with rabies 2-3 weeks as you have to break it up with toy breeds as it is too much for their systems. I personally titer for parvo distemper mine as i will not over vaccinate for this reason. The animax is the only smart thing this idiot gave did he say it was a yeast infection or bacteria infection as it is different as to what med they use and seems he did not check that if he gave anti-fungal and antibiotic shot as yeast needs anti-fungal and bacteria needs antibiotic - so mad right now that this vet did this to your dog |

| you know he never said? ahe smelled his ears and he didnt smell anything, he explained about how his ear canal was shaped like an L and when he inserted the scope he couldn't see he said possible ottis media? but really did not claim diagnois? and me just wanting sami feeling better I trusted him to know what he was doing? sami has stoped throwing up sometime early morning, and he his sleeping he had such a rough night I feel so guilty I thought I was going to help him feel better and mae him worse! I am going to go his office after work tuesday and let them know what my baby went through! and give him hell because i have been going through fear all day and night worring that he would die, because the throwup had turned brown, "dark" I thought OMG hes bleeding or his liver is messed up heck I still dont know if he is really ok I am going to try to find a vet that has been highly recomended tuesday, take him in and have him completely checked out. Im going to get what you recomended chicken and rice and the pedilyte and hope he will eat, I tried this morning to give him nutri-cal but he refused it. he is still sick thanks so much !

Sami is feeling so much better although he is not energentic but I cooked him chicken and rice he ate all of it! wanted more but since his poor tummy went through all that. I didn't give him any more than about 1 1/2 tablespoon last night,I put some unflavored pedilyte in his water and he has been drinking water more that he did. and this morning he woke me up barking at some noise next door! actually the first time I was so glad to here him be responsive by barking. So he is doing pretty good not quite himself but he's here with me I have to tell you I was so afraid he was going to die, I will make those calls tomorrow and find a vet I am kind of worried about the color of his throwup? the brown worries me and I am almost afraid it could be a liver problem? or maybe he was straining so hard there was nothing to throwup? could these injections that made him sick cause a liver problem?

| I am happy to hear Sami is doing better. I just now saw this thread. I think I would avoid that vet like the plague! That part about smelling the ears floored me! Does he not have slides and a microscope???? Unbelievable...

| yeah i was thinking the same thing smell is not the only indicator lol -- they have to take a swab of inside of ear and look at it on a microscope to determine if it is yeast or bacteria because they have to treat each differently - pretty scare what kind of vets are out there really is upsetting to me |
