| Copperhead Bites? Hi, My little 5 pound girl just got bit by a copperhead. The emergency vet said dogs are different than people and there were really no worries but I wanted to double check with you guys. He said just watch her for problems breathing. He said dogs don't have their throats swell closed like people with copperhead bites that the venom acts differently. I'm just worried about my baby girl and was hoping for some input. Whitney |

| I would goggle this and see what you find on the internet because any snake bite in AZ would kill a Yorkie but I don't know about copperheads.

| The second opinion said they usually just treat with antibiotics to prevent infection and steriods for the swelling and it wasn't anything that couldn't wait until tomorrow. I would have never guessed when it happened I figured she was a goner. She got bit twice I think. She isn't swelling so maybe the snake didn't give her any venom, the second vet was pretty puzzled about that, said usually they swell pretty quick. So tomorrow morning we are going in for a check up. Scared me to death she was yelping on the front step I thought maybe she'd gotten bit by another dog she picks fights every now and then. I looked her over and saw a little blood on her leg, but the other dogs didn't quit barking and I looked out and saw the snake. Super scary I still haven't quit shaking yet. Whitney |

| Julie, Thanks for the link, it was nice to see something about a yorkie. I saw a lot of information online about big dogs. She seems to be doing a little better she's moving around and a little more active. Whitney |
