| Licking and chewing on tail ? Baxter was groomed Wednesday and the groomer was going to check his anal gland since he had been doing the booty scoot. I forgot to ask her if they were ok. Anyway - yesterday and this morning he is licking and chewing on his tail. There is a little red bump on the underneath of the tail. I think maybe some thing bit him and it is just coindental that it happened about the same time as the grooming. I've tried putting neosporin and hydrocortisone on it but of course that must makes him lick more. Any suggestions? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Shoot, I was going to suggest both those creams and/or diaper cream. Other than those things, I'm not sure what else you can do. Aloe maybe? Do you think maybe he got nicked at the groomer?

| I don't know. I am psychotic when it comes to this dog. My mother keeps telling me he is not human. It would be easier if he could just talk!! It may just be a bite b/c he really didn't start bothering it until yesterday and the grooming was Wed. I really liked this groomer. She's been grooming for 20 years. Our last groomer quit. Last night we visited with my sister and her dachsund and the dachsund kept smelling of it (gross I know). I think I will take him to the vet in the morning if it is not better. I just know that if he keeps the licking and chewing it will get worse. |

| I think you may be right about the flea. I found 1 on him. I'm sure there are more but I haven't seen any. My sister said the dachsund has them. The vet gave us some medicated powder and it was time for his Frontline. Hopefully we will knock this out soon. Baxter has the hardest time with critters. He seems to attract all kinds. Last summer we went through 2 bouts of seed ticks, 1 yellow jacket, and 2 fire ant encounters. Hopefully this year will be better. Last year we managed to avoid fleas and that is an accomplishment in GA. |
