| No luck with google and some animal health sites. Idiopathic does mean unknown reason so I'm assuming the problem developed due to an unknown reason. Symptoms are a spaced-out look, tilting head to the side, unsteady walking, lack of appetite so vet called it idiopathic stimulitis, gave an anitbiotic in case head-tilt was due to ear infection. I'm looking to make more sense of it. Thanks.

| In all honesty it really sounds very much neurological. Just my opinion. I guess I just disagree with the Vet's opinion. Keep us posted ok? Carol and Jemma |

| Can you explain a little better for me. You say head tilt. Is it kinda hanging over to the side or does it seem stuck in that position? Unsteady walking meaning? Does he ever fall from the walking? And is this a every day thing or once in awhile? I'm glad the vet checked his ear. Middle ear infections can cause a head tilt and a vertigo kind of experience Carol Last edited by Jemma; 05-27-2009 at 03:56 AM. |

| idiopathic VESTIBULAR disease I bet this is what you meant to say, kinda has about the right ring to it. Somewhat like menieres in humans, etiologies unknown if tumor etc ruled out. I presume a benign etiology but with the symptoms you describe I think this is what the correct spelling of your furkid's problem is---you can google it --- |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | What testing lead to that diagnosis? Because all the symptoms you listed are classic for liver shunt. Has LS been ruled out? Portosystemic Shunts FAQ

Did you know that Yorkies are 36 times more likely to have a liver shunt than all other breeds combined? Is this a puppy or young dog? The symptoms you describe are classic shunt symptoms. Your Yorkie needs a bile acids test: PSVA and MVD Research Summary

It's so scary as they age, isn't it? My Lady will be fourteen later on this year. I hope your vet can figure out how to help him.

| I'm no vet but the other poster mentioned this. And your dog is older. Does this sound more accurate. It's not one page. When you're done reading, click page 2. Hope this helps http://www.vetinfo.com/dencyclopedia/devestib.html Last edited by Jemma; 05-27-2009 at 06:41 PM. |
