| OH NO! ER vet might keep Mallie over night! Mallie is our new yorkie puppy...we just got her last Saturday. We went to the vet wednesday for check up and rabies shot. The vet said she looked great! He even said her didnt have the hernia the rescue group told us she had. But, Saturday she started getting really sick. She was very lethargic, not eating much and having diarrhea (diarrhea is probably from new food), and throwing mostly digested food. Yesterday she got even worse and started shaking and making weird moaning noises when she exhaled. So me and my dad took her to Medvet which is our ER Vet here. They tested her for Parvo (which i was certain she didnt have) and it was negatice. They couldnt really find anything wrong with her. They gave her a shot to stop her from throwing up and injected fluid under her skin because she was slighty dehydrated. We took her home and she slept the rest of the night. Today started of really good. We all got up early (7 am) and she ate her mixture of baby food and dry food. She even was playing with my other yorkie, Roman. I decided not to go to class this morning to stay with her. We went back to sleep and I woke up at 10am. From then until about 12pm all she did was sleep. She began shaking again and moaning. So to my regular vet we go. We saw the regular vet and he really did say much, other than the "little dogs get hypoglycemic really easy" I have known since I began reseaching yorkies before I got Roman. He did say he noticed she heart had an irregular beat. He sent us home with Mallie and said to give her some honey and see if she perks up and to check her heart beat and call later. About 4 pm she was still lethargic and not eating or drinking. So we called they vet and the tech put me on hold and came back on and said that the vet wanted to keep her overnight. I ask her if there was someone there overnight and she said no. So i asked her what was the point of keeping her overnight to monitor her if no one was going to be there to monitor her. She said the vet would call me back. The vet called back and said to bring her in and he would take another look at her. Again he found nothing, but he said he heart was beating normally now. He referred us to Medvet so they could run tests on her. So my dad took her to Medvet at about 6 pm. He wouldnt let me go because I was pretty upset, and someone had to take care of Roman. So he texted me and said they took xrays on her, but hadn't came back with results and that they would prebably want to keep her over night to pump her full of fluid and such. Medvet is open 24/7 so someone will be there with her all night. I'm so scared...Roman is my first dog and I've never had to hopitalize a dog over night. Mallie is so docile and i hope this wont scare her too much. She's just 15 weeks old and only 3 lbs. I'm so scared something is wrong with her

| My dad called just as I was posting the first post. He said Medvet is going to keep Mallie overnight. He said the xrays showed that she has pneumonia. So I guess it's good that they now know whats wrong with her, but I'm so sad she has to stay overnight with all these people she deosnt know. I'm scared she's going to think we abandoning her. She's from a puppymill, so she's had such a hard life already. I am going to probably make those workers annoyed tonight, cuz i plan on calling them ALOT! I feel so bad for my poor little baby

| Oh poor little girl...so heartbreaking that so much has happened to her in her short life! She will be ok...I am sure the clinic will take very good care of her and get her feeling better in no time at all..you could see if they will let you bring over a blanket with her scent or one of your tshirts to put in the cage with her, it may comfort her a bit more. Keep us posted on her progress.

| I agree with I Love Bailey, this little baby needs something with your scent on it, and she'll be alright. I sent Bella's binkey with her when she had to stay overnight. It had my scent and hers on it. She'll be ok, It's you I'm worried about. Hang in there.

| So sorry your baby is sick, but glad they found out what's wrong with her. Hopefully they will get her started on antibiotics and she will fell better real soon. I agree with the previous post, if you could take something in with your scent on it for her it they will let you. Keep us posted on how she is doing.

| Although she is a bit young, those symptoms sound a lot like something to do with pancreatitis. with all of these issues and her not being about to be stabilized, I'd also be concerned about a liver shunt. Did they do any blood work?

| The best place she could possible be right now is at the ER vet. They will be able to monitor all her vitals, and initiate any treatment needed. She might be with strangers now, but they will not be strangers for long. Best wishes for her. Please keep us posted. |

| Keeping her overnight is the best and most difficult thing to do for your new baby. She has a serious illness that needs to be treated in a Hospital. I am sorry your little one is so sick . Rememebr that she is in good hands. It is fortnate that you kept following through with her medical care, and you had your father help you . Otherwise your puppy may have become even more sicker without the propper treatment. Early intervention is vital. You may have saved her life. You are a wonderful mommy.

| Thanks so much...you guys made me feel a little better. She does have a blanket there with her...shes pretty much been wrapped up in it with us holding her since saturday. They didnt do bloodwork. The xrays were pretty conclusive with pneumonia, so they didnt see it necessary. She's staying over night at the ER vet and tomorrow she has to spend some of the day at the regular vet, but after that i will definitely keep an eye out for other issues. Shes from a puppy mill, so she's obviously not from good genes so i'm well aware of all the potiental health problems she is probably more likely to get. Already had the vet check her for luxating patellas because she was walking funny. Turns out, she walks funny because her back legs are a little longer than the front. The vet called her a wheel barrel! lol. Thanks for your concerns though.

| I guess I'm a bit confused that they are saying it is just pneumonia. Maybe I'm missing something but it sounds like there is something else going on also. It doesn't seem that this should cause all of that diarrhea and vomiting...

| Well she definitely has an upset belly also...they cant tell for sure but they said that maybe when she threw up, she inhaled some of it and thats what could have given her the pneumonia.

| She hasnt thrown up since 9pm last night...no dry heaves or anything so that seems to have passed. And like i said, I'm pretty sure the diarrhea is from the new food because he hasn't had too solid poops since we've had her.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am so sorry your baby is sick. Good for you for rescuin gher and taking such good care of her. My Cali was sick a lot when I got her and spent nights in the ER and I think it is harder on us then them. They always told me that the staff would hold her and comfort her and that her feet never touched the ground!! So she is in good hands and will be so happy to be home with you soon.

| Update I picked up Mallie from the ER vet this morning to transport her to her regular vet. She seemed to be doing good. She was all wiggley and excited to see us. She was giving lots of kisses (which she only does when shes's real excited) and I didn't hear any breathing difficulties. I hope this means she's getting better. My vet said she may have to stay a couple more days. My problem with this is they want to keep Mallie at the regular vet all day and night to monitor her...but no one is there are night! How can they monitor her when no one is there for 10 +/- hrs?? We already refused to leave her there last night, which is why she had to go to the ER vet. So i guess depending on what my regular vet says and what the ER vet says she may be going back to the ER vet. I really wanted her to be able to come home today... She is spending the day at my regular vet and is getting blood work done. My dad is trying to reach the vet Mallie has seen with the last 2 nights too find out if it's necessary to hospitalize her again. This is very expensive! It was $500 just for last night. It's going to be about $200 more for the visit at my vet today...and this doesnt include the cost of the vet visit yesterday and the ER vet visit sunday. Ive been reading what is basically horror stories on old threads here about dogs with pneumonia...and needless to say it didnt make me feel any better. My dad did say that the pneumonia barely showed on the xrays so its not a bad case. Im just worried because pneumonia is very severe and i dont want to lose my new puppy. They vets haven't said a word about her not surviving this...so im hoping thats a good sign. Im trying to be positive about this, but its so hard!
