| cough for several months I don't know what to do. I bought my yorkie in september and he has had a cough from day one. At first when I brought him home he had reverse sneezing and coughing http://kona.kontera.com/javascript/l...rey_loader.gif like 6 times per day each. Not after treating it for 7 months it has gone down to 1 per day coughing only.the reverse sneezing is very rare now only when he gets excited. He usually coughs 1 time when he wakes up or after drinking water. He was off meds for 1 month in january since the vet said it was too much med for him. I have changed vets 2 times. X-ray were done and it was not collapse trachea. I have seen the youtube videos for reverse sneeze, but he does not do that anymore only when there is a guest in the house and he gets super excited. And the cough it sounds like a human cough. It has gotten better from when i brought him home, but 7 months its 2 much time. he is always wearing a sweater and never goes outside when its cold or theres air.....everything else is okay.....what do i do now...i also put on the vicks humidifier 4 times per week at night till the morning. He sleeps in my room. ....I mean 7 months with a cough is a really long time. he has not been on meds for 1 week now. but taking him over and over to vet and does not go away.....im thinking of trying out honey since i read its good for that...anyone can suggest one.....or advize me on what to do next |

| Did the vet rule out kennel cough? Did you get him at a Pet store? Our last dog, Corky, had collapse trachea but he was coughing besides wheezing and hacking and when the vet took xrays it showed that his heart was enlarged (congestive heart failure). He was on all kinds of meds and lived for a few more years (to 13) but it was so sad listening to him and seeing him looking at me with those sad eyes. He used to stand up and stretch his head and neck out and the vet said they do this to help them breath. Hope this isn't the case with your little guy but I would get it checked out. Hope he is better soon.

| the vet has not said kennel cough. he tells me he gives me antibiotics for the cough...yes i made the big mistake of getting him at a petstore. i would never buy from a petstore again. i did not know all the wrong things they do at the pet stores. so i really dont know what to do it sucks. i mean 7 months is a long time....i dont want him 2 have it all his life....im just scared and concern....i love him like if he was my son and i dont want anything wrong to happen 2 him.... | Did the vet xray him to check his heart? Do you have any specialty vets there? There is a practice here (Florida) about 8 miles from us and they have specialists. Brady had knee surgery last year for a luxating patella and they have a heart specialist and other specialtists. Wish I had known about it so we could have taken Corky there. I'd go to another vet for a second opinion because he shouldn't be coughing. Our next door neighbors bought a dog at a pet store several years ago and within two weeks the dog was dead (don't know what was wrong). They went to the store to get their money be-cause the dog was "guaranteed" but they wouldn't give them the money so they bought another dog. Last year they gave that dog away because they both work and last week they went out and bought another dog at the same PET STORE. A few days later I found out she had kennel cough. DUH !!! Good luck - keep me posted. I know how you feel about loving the little critters because I feel the same way about mine.

| the vet who took the xrays said that the heart for his size was a lil bit to big. my dog weights 5 pounds. hes heart is suppose to be in 3 bones i think and the vet said it was in 4.....so i had to change vets because i did not like this vet...the second vet looked at the xrays and said that my dogs heart was okay as far as size goes. i know i should changed vets, so that i can get a second opinion or should i say 4th, but the thing is the vet i have right now has the best reviews that are near me. all the others arent good because they have terrrible reviews from other people Quote:

| Definitely ask your vet for the name of an excellent dog cardiologist. You got two different opinions on the xrays so it is time to get another (and another and another if necessary) Don't let this go on too long.
