| MY baby has bloody & Mucus stool (campylobacteriosis) So last wednesday i have been closely watching Bailey and her stool as i thought it did not look right, I ended up going to get her check out at the vet as she had liquid stool as well as blood in it and mucus around it. It ended up being Campylobacteriosis and the vet gave me prescription for her. She was on meds for 4 days and was getting somewhat better but she got off her meds on saturday and yesterday once i got home her stool was full of mucus and blood once more even worst then last time so i called up the vet and he gave me enough prescritption for 1 week this time. Now i was wonderring if anyone experience this problem with their puppy... the weird thing is that she is still playful and energetic (which is good) Is there something i can do to make her better sooner or anything i can avoid to avoid this sickness?? i know i go visit my mother in law ever weekend and she has 2 cats and 1 dog could she be getting sick from them, from drinking their water and eating their food?? if anyone has any advise it would greatly be apreciated. thanks

| This is an infectious disease caused by a spiral shaped bacteria called Campylobacter. It infects humans as well as animals. All the symptoms that your dog has, are symptoms of this disease. The most common form of transference is through chicken. Most chickens carry this disease, and never show any signs of illness. However, when you get this infected chicken home, that is where the damage can occur. The touching of raw products, and then cross-contaminating other food items will tranfer the disease. Undercooked chicken as well will transfer. If you mom lives near a wild stream or river keep your baby from drinking there, as wild birds are also known carriers. Most of the time this disease in humans will clear up on its own, however, your babies immune system is not strong enough for that. I would keep her on the antibiotics for as long as the vet says so. Because there is a small chance that if you do not get it healed now, it can transfer into the blood stream and that is Not a good thing. Best of luck , and keep us posted as to how she is doing! |

Senior Yorkie Talker | My Yorkie is 10 weeks old. I got her a few days ago. The breeder had her on canned food which makes her stool too soft...trying to wean her onto dry food. Last night her fur was matted with poo..so I had to give her a bath to get it all out. Anyway, today she had bloody mucus in her stool and threw up a bit. Wouldn't eat either. I made her an appt. for today...gave her forced liquids (water only) with a dropper and plain yogurt in the meantime. She checked out fine at the vet...no parasites...no fever..heart and lungs good. Vet said it could be that she swalled some of the soap or bath water and it irritated her digestive tract and caused the bloody mucus in the stool.... But he wrote her out antibiotics anyway (Albon). She is fine now...though her stool is still a little runny,..the vet said it should be back to normal soon. |
