| ![]() My 2 yr old baby named Bentley was neutered today and he is home with me recovering. He is very bruised and swollen, the vet said it was okay but he seems very uncomfortable... I'm worried. Any ideas on anything I can do to make him more comfortable? The vet said that I am supposed to make sure he isn't very active, but it's hard because he wants to be up and around and getting up and off of the sofa. The vet said it could be a couple of days before the swelling went down, but I wanted to see how long it took for some of our fellow Yorkie friends to recover! ![]() |

♥ Mama's Boy ♥ Donating Member | ![]() Aww..Tobie got neutered on friday,I know how hard it is to keep them from jumping believe me, it is so hard. Tobie is a year young then your baby, he will do fine, try not to worry to much. Easier said then done, I know. On Sunday, Tobie was feeling much better and today he acts like nothing even happened to him. The first day is the hardest because they are so out of it and it breaks your heart. But he will start to feel better tomorrow. Just don't let him lick the stitches. I got Tobie a procollar because it looks more comfy then the cone, I posted a picture so you can see what it looks like. Hope this helps. Also, if you get him a baby onesie that will also help make him more comfy as well and help prevent licking the stitches. Last edited by Tobie22; 02-24-2009 at 06:33 PM. |

| ![]() My Winnie was neutered on friday too! He is doing just fine, I gave him pain meds for the first 3 days. I dont know if he will need them tomorrow. He is acting like he is feeling great! My vet used a laser and said it helps with the recovery time. I think the most important thing is to make sure he doesn't lick the area too much and to take all his antibiotics.

| ![]() Some pain medications may reduce swelling. Was he given any for at home?

| ![]() Thanks for all of your advice. I have had a little trouble keeping him from licking his incision but he's getting better as I tell him "no." He keeps adjusting himself, I think he's having trouble getting comfortable... the vet gave me pain meds so hopefully that helps keep him comfortable. I hope he feels better soon, his incision looks really bad and painful even though the vet said it was fine i'm still worried. ![]() |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | ![]() I'm so glad you were able to finally get it done! I know it's difficult though. I teared up when I went to pick Lola up after being spayed. She was so out of it and lethargic and letting out these little whimpers. Made me so sad. However, the next day she was completely back to normal!! She definitely had a lot of bruising as well...it took a few days to go away, but don't be worried. Did they stitch him up, or use the glue?? Also, don't freak out if you notice little bumps (I think it's called Keyloids??). That happened to Lola and she was totally fine. The first day, they're usually on tons of pain meds, so don't think they feel too much pain. I think it's the anesthesia that really affects them the most. I'm SOOO glad everything went well!! The worst part is over with! Now just cuddle him, and pet him, and he'll be great!! It's definitely important to prevent a lot of activity for 2 weeks. It's hard, but necessary. Also, that's great you're on top of the licking as well....the night time was the hardest for me to get Lola to not lick because I was sleeping and wasn't aware of it. Good luck!!! |
