| Reaction to distemper shots? Hello, I have 2 young males, Marti and Morey, 2 years old. Both had distemper shots yesterday (1/15). Marti fared fine; however, Morey seems like he is having some kind of a reaction. Lethargic, not eating, shaking, barely wanting to walk outside to potty. Has anyone had this reaction before? I called the Animal Emergency Group, as our "vet" is not in today. They said it was "normal" for about 24 hours...I don't know if I believe this. Any feedback would be appreciated. |

| Vaccine reaction are pretty common in Yorkies. If his gums are anything other than the normal pink, it is an emergency. Is he drinking? How much does he weigh?

| I'm so sorry Morey is not doing well after his vaccine....Sad to say that sometimes this is a reaction to these shots....I hope he's better tomorrow but I would keep a close eye on him.... This is an interesting link explaining the problems with vaccines.....it's sad when this has to be considered "normal"..... Canine Vaccination Concerns - England

| Thank you so much...well, his gums are normal color and he ate a small piece of his treat....I'm sure this will pass, but believe me when I say I will be looking at other alternatives to pet health care. He is only 6 lbs. and I really believe he was over-vaccinated. |

| It's completely normal for them to be sleepy and somewhat uncomfortable for about a day after a vaccination. It's really no different than when humans get a vaccination-- I know I've been sore and crummy feeling for a little while after every vaccine I've ever had. Luckily distemper vaccines are perfectly effective if given on a 3 year cycle, so this hopefully won't be something the babies have to go through often. Did your vet give them a distemper combo with lepto included? Lepto is the portion of the vaccine that most often causes reactions, and it is largely unnecessary for a small house dog since their risk of exposure to the disease is typically pretty low.

| Do you know what was in the shot? I'm sure it was a combo shot and may have contained lepto and/or corona. Both are known to cause reactions in Yorkies. |
