| Sick Yorkie - Ate Garbage Well..my sneaky little yorkie found his way into the garbage this morning while w were sleeping soundly. We caught him in the act and he ate some chicken and some other random items in the trash It's now evening and although he's been drinking water and running around a bit, his behavior has been strange. Finally as he was nodding off on my lap I noticed that his nose is warm I'm guessing he doesn't feel good, but I'm nervous. Will this pass? Should I take him in? I'm pretty near broke at the moment because of the holidays, so if there's a majority chance that he'll be just fine, I'll keep him away from the vets. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? or gone through a trash monster episode with their yorkie? |

| Whenever they get into garbage you have to worry about pancreatitis. Yorkies, unfortunately, are prone to it. Here is some information for you. If you suspect pancreatitis, you must get him to the vet asap: Pancreatitis (Inflammation) in Dogs |

| I would be a bit worried about what he ate exactly and if he is still not being himself I would lean toward taking him to the get or at the very least calling the vets office to see what they recommend.

| Unfortunately, there are things we throw in the garbage that could be very toxic to our animals. How did he get in the garbage? Just curious, as I have a garbage can(one of those big heavy duty plastic ones) and there is no way they could ever get in to it. Hope your baby is okay today, if not, please get him in to the vet |

| Hoping for an update.... One thing to keep in mind is that the vet will be cheaper today than Christmas Eve or Christmas day. I hope he's ok though.

| Carter was facinated with the garbage can, I had to get a garbage can holder. At my boyfriends house we had to put the can in the closet. It is scary when you dont know what they may have ate, He never got sick or didn't act like himself, I would bring him in if anything was wrong you would feel so bad. My vet takes credit cards one time I was broke because I just back from vacation and I put it on the card because he was sick. It totally sucks. |

| Similar situation Hello, my 3 month old 2.6 lb yorkie boy got into something the other day (22rd) and has been sick since 12am on the 24th. I think it may have been a piece of rib meat...or it could have been cookie batter. I took him to the vet on the 24th first thing in the morning and they wanted to charge me 600 dollars to keep him in hospital forone day and do allsorts of blood work, xrays and IV. He has since progressed about 25% and I am giving him Pedialyte which hydrates him and he is drinking water on his own. I also gave him Pepto Bismol for his tummy. The vet sad he had some gastric pain but did not prescribe anything. I have gastro wet food as well from the vet but he has not eaten it. I am feeding him chicken baby food with a suringe and I fasted him about 12 hrs with only water beforehand. Since it is the holidays and the only opt is the ER I have hesitated as EVERYONE (except the vet and a few wealthies off this site) have told me not to worry, he will be fine, and just keep doing what I am doing (pedialyte, baby food, water, pepto if necessary). What are you aiming towards doing, and how is your baby feeling now? How long did he take to get backto normal? My dog just wants to sleep all day but he is alert and not lethargic. I don't believe it is pancreatil, will get a test for it when the vet opens again but..... are curious for answers. And I hope some of what I have been doing had helped... |

| If he gets worse tonight, take him straight away to the ER vet! There's something called Credit Care (I think) ask them about it. He can go downhill fast! If he's OK in the morning I would still take him in to your regular vet.
