| Help...I have a sick Yorkie! Hi Everyone, Just signed up to this forum, and am looking for some help. My sweet puppy was sick this morning. She is 14 months old, ok maybe not puppy puppy, but still my baby! Last night she was very active, all night long. Would not sleep at all, kept jumping off of the bed and then crying to get back on. She settled down finally at around 4am. This morning when i woke for work, she woke up with me, and threw up. It was not bile, still had some food in it from the night before, she threw up 1 more time about 10 minutes later. Found that she was jumping off of the bed leaving a couple of messes. Which she NEVER does. She had a bit of loose stool, not completely, but still much more loose than normal. After vomitting she was drooling tons. I called the vet, and had some drops that were prescribed last year to her, the only other time that she has been sick. The doc said it was ok to give her the drops. I waited about an hour and half, (no vomitting afterwards) and had to leave for work. She was completely sick and lethargic from the time she threw up until the time that i left. i made her a little bed on the couch and she just laid on it the whole time i was getting ready. Im going to check on her soon, in about an hour and half. But Im still really worried about her. Any ideas? or suggestions? Also, i pulled her food and just left her water. reccomendations for the to feed her later on this evening. Anything that can put my mind at ease would be appreciated. Thanks everyone! |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am sorry to hear she is sick. Did you change her food or give her new treats? Sometimes one of mine get upset tummies and usually are back to normal a few hours later. Hopefully the meds will settle her tummy down and when you go to check on her she will be moe active. Keep us posted.

| Well, she has gotten sick before and has still been the same active dog. This time she after vomitting she was acting sooo sick. Just limp. Also, would it be ok to give her a bath this evening, so long as she is not still vommitting? |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | If she is still lethargic when you get home...I'd take her in to the vet's office. You can feed her a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice to help settle her tummy.

| If this continues, I'd definately do blood work. Also, Yorkies dehydrate very quickly and if she was already limp when you left, I would be extremely concerned without someone there to watch her... If she doesn't want food or isn't holding it down, you can give pedialye. Did she eat anything out of the ordinary yesterday?

| WELCOME TO YORKIETALK Welcome, but I must say I hate that my first post in one of your threads is related to a poor sick little one. I would definately take her to the vet as soon as you are able. It sounds like a thorough check-up with bloodwork is in her immediate future. Any number of things could cause the symptoms you have discribed. |

| Thanks everyone! I just went and spent an hour with her. She was really excited to see me and bouncing around. Shaking a little bit. I brough her "daddy" with me (my boyfriend and I live apart) and when she saw him she went nuts. Fed her a handfull off food, which she wanted to eat, a saltine, then took the food back away and left water down for her. I spoke to the vet several times. She wasnt very lethargic at all just now. I will be home again in 2 more hours so we will see how that goes. Is her activeness a sign that she is feeling a bit better? Also, ive washed her face several times with baby wipes and soap and water. Would it be horrible to give her a bath. She has that gross smell on her face |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Yes her activeness is a good sign. Honestly though....I would hold off on bathing her until tomorrow...but that's just me. She'd probably be fine tonight.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Welcome IriniK . I'm sorry your baby was sick; it sounds like she may be feeling better. If not though, I'd take her in asap. Fyi, I'm going to eventually move this post to the Sick/Emerg forum - but I want to be sure to notify you first, so let me know when you see this.

| I don't see a problem with bathing tonight. Did she get anything other than her normal food yesterday?

| You know what? She did eat something out of the ordinary yesterday. She likes to throw around food all of the time. I gave her 1 sunflower seed that she played with for an hour... Do you think? Other than that just her dry food, and she always gets a cookie or 2, once before i leave work, and once when i come home. I wonder if the seed or the salt on it? |

I was thinking more along the lines of fatty meat (pancreatitis)... As long as you've talked to the vet and her gums are pink, she is probably okay but I would be very uncomfortable that she went limp and it wouldn't hurt to take her in...

| UPDATE! Once i got home from work, effie was really excited. I scooped her up to cuddle her, she was a little shaky. After a few minutes she had a spat of diarreah, full on. I spoke with 3 different vets. All of them told me the same thing. As long as she is not throwing up she will be ok overnight. The diarreah was only once at 6pm- it is now 8pm she seems ok. She has eaten a bit of boiled chicken and rice, maybe 2 tablespoons. She would have eaten more but i want to see how she reacts to it. She had a bath, the doc said that was ok. Now she is sleeping on her daddy. What do you guys think? is this ok behaviour. She even grabbed her toys to play a bit but i didnt want to throw them to upset her stomach. Should i still be super worried? Thanks everyone for all of your help! |

| I think she's OK, but I'd keep a close eye on her!
