| Watery diarrhea with blood.... what could that be? My Jade has this going on for 3 days now. She is acting fine, playing, eating and drinking. Going to take her to vet tomorrow but just wanted to know if anyone had any ideas. She is 6 months old.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | No changes in diet at all, or treats? Also I know nothing about female dogs, I've only had males, but blood couldn't be coming from a period could it, I mean you're sure the blood is in stool?

| I dropped Jade off at the vet this morning. I gave them a stool sample for her and Tobey and both are negative for any parasites. They are giving her fluids and running some blood work. She is acting fine, she even tried to go after a dobbie at the vet this morning. LOL This dobbie came in and she was barking so loud and growling, it was too cute! She has had large amounts of diarrhea with blood in it. So the stools are negative, any thoughts on what this could be? There has been no change in diet at all. She has been doing this for 4 days now. Thanks for any info. She is still at the vet.

| The vet just called me and they want to keep her overnight for hydration, he said she is not severly dehydrated for IV but hey are giving her subQ hydration through her skin. She doesn't have a temp and the CBC results wont be back until tomorrow morning. Wow this will cost an arm and a leg for overnight, huh? Oh well. He started her on a broad spectrum antibiotic and something to slow down the "squirts" as the vet put it. What am I going to do without my baby tonight?

| I'm sure the vet will have better ideas for you after observing her and getting her bloodwork back. I wanted to mention that I noticed in your post in general discussion that you feed them Eukenuba. Eukenuba isn't a quality dog food. I'm not saying this is causing the problem, but I'm sure it isn't helping either. There's a sticky at the top of the page with a list of good dog foods that don't contain a lot of fillers and other things that aren't good for your babies. Check it out. You might ask the vet to advise you of the best way to switch thier food, so as not to cause G.I. upset. I hope Jade is feeling better ASAP!!!

If you are going to search for a new food, I would suggest checking out this site: Dog Food Review Ratings It will link you to several sources that give info on commercial brands, supplements, home cooking and raw feeding. I hope that your little one is better soon. It will be interesting to see the what is determined to be the cause of her problems. Wishing her a speedy recovery. | |

As I said, I'm sure that's not the problem (well, nothing is sure) but just thought I'd mention it. Any news on Jade?

| No update yet. I called and they said I can come in when I get off of work to go visit with her. They are open until 8pm. I can't wait to go see her. Tobey is going to be heart broken without his friend tonight. So far the stool samples are neg for any ova and parasites, I guess that is good. I'll keep you posted tonight when I get home from visiting with her. Thanks for the caring you all have shown.

| Did the vet mention anything about colitis? It seems very similar to something that happened to Layla last year... I woke up one morning to find pools of blood and diarrhea all over the living room floor. I called the vet, almost crying, and took her in right away. The vet thought she had colitis and gave some antibiotics and by the next day there was no blood, and within a couple of days her stools were back to normal. I believe colitis is caused by bacteria. I hope Jade is feeling better soon!

| We went to go visit Jade at the vet after work and she was so excited to see us. She was her playful self and the tech at the vet's office said she is barking at every dog that walks by her and that she has been very playful and not at all lethargic. They say she isn't eating well there but she is spoiled and will eat a table scrap if she had one. Last eve at our BBQ she was chowing down on some beef ribs, after I took the meet off of the bone, of course. They still want to keep her for the night and she is still squirting. Her butt was so red and swollen, poor baby. Vet said she did not squirm on the abdomen exam which he said means there is no pain and he said he can't feel anything in the belly either. I'm sure she will be able to come home tomorrow. They are giving her something to slow down the diarrhea too and an antibiotic. She looks good, doesn't smell too good and they didn't give her a bath because she just keeps pooping and her butt had so much poop stuck to it. They said they will wash her butt before she goes home, but a full bath is an extra charge. For all the money I m paying they can't bathe her? I am switching vets after this. So far my bill is over $240 and that doesnt include the $44 for tomorrow also. No it wasn't the beef ribs, she has been having diarrhea for 4 days now and she has ALWAYS had some bites of table scraps but eats her food well also.
