My parents have a Queensland heeler. It is a very sweet dog. She is gentle and patient with my girls. She has been vomiting for over 48 hrs and can't even keep down water. She is weak and at the vet on an IV. I was so afraid because my girls have been at the pool swimming with this dog several times during the past week. After some blood work came back, they discovered she has liver damage. My Mom gave her benadryl for itching and red eyes. The problem is, it was "Benadryl allery & COLD" This contains tylenol. I am afraid Pepper might not make it. My mom is wracked with guilt. I am relieved it is not something contageous tho'. I stayed home from the Cali meetup because I was worried about exposing others.

I am so sorry to hear this, your mom must be devastated. This is an important reminder that we should check with vet before giving any medication. I hope she can recover from this, sometime the liver can repair itself if not too much damage was done. We had a cat whose liver was helped with Milk thistle.

Yes, my Mom is feeling horrible. She has given Pepper Benadryl many times before. This was the cold formula, and she did not realize it was dangerous. Poor Pepper was so sick it was heartbreaking to see.

They are keeping her at the vet on IV fluid because she can't even keep down water. They did say she "could" recover, but I was not there when my Dad took her, so I don't know what was really said. He is trying to protect my Mom's feelings, and I think he is trying to play it down.

My Mom called and said Pepper has passed. It is so sad. She was such a good dog and it was such an avoidable death. My Mom is sick with guilt. I know the dog lovers on YT are aware of the danger of Tylenol, but I hope that Pepper's death can serve as a warning to others about accidental poisoning. Double check your labels.

And I am 1 that has been informed- I did not know Tylenol
was so bad for dogs!
