| My little yorkie Teddy is on predisone. Help my four year old little yorkie Teddy has been on predisone for almost two months June.08. The vet says that he has lymphangiectasia...protein losing entropathies. He has had two blood tests. First showed he was anemic, three weeks after a special vitamin syrup he is fine in that department. He has had a swollen belly. He is retaining fluid. The predisone hasn't helped the swollen belly. He has had two ultra sounds..last one was on Friday. The first one showed that his little body had fluid around it. The second ultra sound has showed that the instestional walls are more infected. Now the vet wants to a biospy on the instestional. Here is my problem...I don't know if I should put him through that. He acts fine but looks a little older. His skin has shown dandruff which he has never had. I have tried to read up on this disease but what I've read doesn't sound good. Oh he is also on LD diet from the vet. If any of you out there have any ideas or have gone through this please help. I am a wreck wondering if I should let this vet cut him open if he is going to die in time. The vet thinks he will be fine..with the biopsy but it is still cutting open. I just don't know why they can't try another medicine besides predisone. Okay thanks from my heart. Mikkee. |

| I am sorry about your little Teddy. I do not have any advice, but I hope someone else on YT might be able to help. I do understand your concern about prednisone. It is an awful thing. However, it did save my Piccolo's life. (She had something different.) She has only been off of it for a week and she started it in February, so she was on it a long time. Hugs to Teddy....

| Teddy's surgery canceled!! Hi thanks for asking. I took Teddy down to the vets yesterday at eight in the morning and he was there most of the day. The vet called at noon and said that he didn't think that he was going to do the surgery that day as he had a pregant yorkie that was in labor and hadn't delivered yet and he might have to do a cesarian section on her or she could die. So he would let me know. Well at 3:00 they called and said that he could go home and that the yorkie gave birth to a little boy and girl hadgone home. I picked up teddy and he was shaking beyond belief. He was shaking so hard that he wasn't himself. I took him outside as I thought he might be cold. He stopped in a minute. Meanwhile he hasn't pooh pooped today. So of course I am concerned the vet said not an isssu metamusil. So I jusst don't get it. Here his little instestines are inflammed more then the last ulrla sound and supposedly needing this test immediately and now it will be sometime next week. Meanwhile teddy acts fine but is still very bloated with fluid and the presidone isn't working I don't think..Okay that is it. Please help!!! with your thoughts or opinons. Thanks from my heart mikkee |

| My friends maltese had the same thing....they almost lost him.....he was on prednisone also for awhile.....he seems to be doing fine now .....I would also be concerned w him being on prenisone for so long.....my opinion would be to find a holistic vet who may have some ideas how to treat this more naturally and without surgery.....I would definitely look into a raw diet...either way just type in some words in search online and see if there are any alternative ways of treating this.........just my opinion.........all the best to you.......

| do you have a holistic vet in your area......or have you emailed Donia? when something in the gut is not going right there is sure to be kidney problems. My vet only has 4 postings on his wall inside one of the exam rooms and one of them is on prednisone....when I told him about a friend whose maltese is on it he pounded on the article on the wall and said how dangerous it is to have them on it long term.....it is only masking what is going on underneath ....go online and punch in "raw meaty bones" or Dr. Tom Londsdale and you can email him w your concerns......sorry if this doesn't help you but your last reply came to my incoming email and all I can tell you is what I feel is best for my babies.....all the best and prayers to you.

| I am so sorry for what you are going through. Our dog was diagnosed with PLE and our vet dd not think it wise to cut him open. He was 9 years old. It is a very severe disease. We lost him on Dec. 26 and I am still crying. We felt it was the kind thing to do. Our dogs belly was swollen, fluids were third spacing. Our vet said he could die a painful death. He could not have healed from the stitches or survive the surgery. Can yours? I will pray for him. |

| I'm sorry about your Yorkie. Honestly, this is a very serious disease and since he isn't getting better, I would really consider seeing an internist who is familiar with this. A biopsy may need to be done but you might want to do it at a specialty hospital and talk to the internist first...
