What a great place this is for us to be able to help each other with advise. I know I have been helped out immesurably from Yorkie Talk friends. What a good mom you are to get right on it!

Hoping Huey will start to feel better soon.

Thank you, he is my only baby, as I do not have any children and I do treat him as a baby.

A little update about him. About an hour ago, he got up out of his pet bed that he has been sleeping in and threw up a little. I called the Emergency Vet who treated him and he said that he is not concerned at this time as he may just have an upset stomach from the infection and the shots. So I am going to watch him through out the night and if he does throw up any more, I am supposed to take him back in for new medicine for him. He is tuckered out and after he threw up, just dropped down in front of the pet bed and is sound asleep.

Thank you to all of you who are thinking of him! It means a lot to us!

Tylenol is not the safe choice for your puppy!!!! I would always ask the vet before you give your dog any otc medication!!! Your vet can help you calculate the appropriate dose for your baby

Well, I checked his butt and it appears to be doing a little better today. He still is laying around and I did give him the medication that the vet had given so hopefully it will do good. There was no more throwing up last night or this morning, so that is good. I actually had to hide one of the medication in a little treat so he would eat it because he kept spitting it out. But he did eat it. That is the only thing he has eaten. I guess he will eat when he is hungry. He has been asleep so much, that he does not really get up too much. It was a long night of checking on him back and forth. But so far so good.

glad the vomiting has not continued. Remember what you feel like when your sick with an infection - you might not want to eat & you just want to sleep or lay around, that's what Huey feels like. Glad his hiney is looking better. Hopeful the meds will have the upper hand on the infection soon, and you start to see him turn the corner.

I have a little concern. My dog has been been sleeping since this morning. I know he is sick and getting over and infection. But he has not gotten up to get a drink or use the bathroom. Is this normal or should I be worried? I am a bit concerned.

The same thing happened to Mia since Thursday. I took her to the vet, she gave her antibiotics and prednisone for the swelling. Did you notice if he is scooting? When Mia scoots it becomes more inflamed. They did express her anal glands on Wed. when she first started scooting. Your baby is probably sleeping because he is irritated and is on medication. What shots did they give him? Also don't be alarmed when he goes to the bathroom it might look inflamed again.

I would call the vet and just ask. Were you going back to the vet today? Or is that tomorrow? How is Huey's breathing? Does he seem to be sleeping very soundly? I remmeber when Bubba was sick, he just basically stayed in his bed in the kitchen - it's almost like they know it's their backside and it can be a bit smelly.

No scooting. He barely gets up. The injections he got were enroflexacin and dexamethasone. I was sent home with the antibiotics of rimadyl and enroflexacin.

His glands were expressed, and they said that was not the problem. His butt actually looks better today.

I did just wake him up and brought him over to the water dish. He got a drink and then laid down again and went to sleep.

They told me that I did not have to go back to the vet unless it does not get better. He is breathing fine and sleeping very soundly.

He did get a drink, but I think I may go take him out just to see if he will do anything.

Ok well I took him out and he peed, so I feel a little better. He really has not eaten today, so I am going to keep an eye on that. I think he just does not feel well and will get his hunger back once the meds are working thoroughly.

ok the dexamethasone is in the steriod family here is a link Dexamethasone. I am a little worried about combining Rimadyl with the dexamethasone

INTERACTIONS WITH OTHER DRUGS

Drugs of the NSAID class should not be used concurrently as the potential for the aforementioned side effects increases. For similar reasons, NSAIDS should not be used in conjunction with corticosteroid hormones such as prednisone, dexamethasone etc. Pfizer recommends a 2 - 3 day rest period when changing over to carprofen or to another NSAID from carprofen. Aspirin poses an exception due to its strong platelet inactivating abilities so 10-14 days is recommened when switching to carprofen from apsirin. Allow at least one week between prednisone and carprofen.
