| Update First can I say, how much I wish I could change the title of this thread! I really over-reacted. I have breed dogs and cats, and thankfully I have never had a sick animal before except in old age, with the exception of a male cat with a urinary infection. So. I should have been able to remain calm. But with Bubba, I was afraid he had somehow gotten some pork on the day he started getting sick. Bubba seems to be doing a lot better today. Yesterday he really didn't move much. He has been a bit more active today. I fed him only chicken broth today with a bit of the goodies in the soup. He had some this morning - sure it wasn't as filling as dog food - so this afternoon he was begging for something else. He has had only one stool and it was still somewhat loose and mucusy - but almost 90% better than yesterday, so I believe he is improving. He has eaten the herbal compound tablet with no problem - and I believe this has helped him immensely. I was very surprised that the vet didn't test the sample that I took in, but then I was reading Alex's Yorkie Care q & a and she said her vet doesn't want to test the stool sample when there is blood, but immediately starts using an antibiotic. So, I guess my vet knew what he was doing - the herbal has seemed to work well, Bubba seems more like himself. These vets see a lot of poo - he knew it was bad & saved me money by not running the sample. I felt horrid until about 6 pm - now feeling a bit more human and like myself. I sat her at home & put in 8 hrs work today (mostly tonight) & somehow 4 hrs yesterday. So, I will probably have to go in tomorrow. I guess it was good I was sick too, otherwise I don't know if I could have convinced my boss I need to stay home to take care of my dog. I really needed to be here to see how he was doing.

| Keep a watch on the loose stools. If they continue have your vet do a complete blood panel work up. If the amylase and lipase values are high then that is definitely a sign of pancreatitis or it can lead to pancreatitis -dogs that go into full blown pancreatitis have to be hospitalized for a few days and be on iv's. they recover but you have to be careful with the dogs diet. Low fat, high fiber. The wellness wgt mgt actually has 8 % fiber. this was the highest I could find. Our vet specialist wanted to put my girls on Hills Pres w/d. It has 6 % fat and 20 % fiber. I am not fond of the pres diets so I have my girls on the Wellness Wgt Mgt food. They get a nickle size dollap of canned wellness (venison/sweet potato) pretty much to give them their meds only. Too much of the canned raised the amylase and lipase values and caused loose stool. No table scraps of any kind is best. My girls have improved and their stool is not loose. It was never diarrarhea- just mushy. It was hard to pick it up with the shovel :-) Wellness is a great food especially for dogs with pancrease symptoms or loose stool. they make great treats wellbar and wellbites that are great too. My dogs love them so much I'm really suprised that I am not missing any fingers :-) Good luck! |

| another update Bubba is not doing well at all & my vet doesn't work Mondays - so when I called them this morning he wanted to see us again. Bubba has lost 4 oz since Wed. He has yet to have a firm stool. He really hasn't had anything in over 24 hrs, just like strips of poo & some mucusy blood. Which was stuck to his hair & I washed off him, so no sample to take to the doc. He has had to many baths or 1/2 baths. Thinking I need to put ponytails in his back quarters The vet has him on 4 different meds - 2 herbals & 2 traditionals - one is an antibotic. If he doesn't improve, by Tues. or Wed. he will have to see an internal specialist. I did give him some canned pumpkin today & he is having low sodium chicken broth. Please pray he improves. I unfortunately am also still feeling bad - goodness, I'm on day 4 of this gunk. Yesterday I had to go into work, planned on just doing 3 1/2 hrs & coming home - but my boss left sick (hoping I didn't make her sick) so I had to stay about twice as long as I planned. Came home last night horribly sick fever, sore throat, continuously running nose, fever - not much better today. Thanks all, going to go lay down again. Please keep us in your prayers

| Some good news Bubba seems to have made some major improvements. Last night he was demanding a treat and this morning he wanted to eat - today was the first day I feed him like regularly would. Before he ate this morning he was running all over the backyard & even chased off a robin -- him wanting to prove he was boss over something is a very good sign. He had a fairly firm stool that looked free of any blood or mucus. He is going to have his last bit of the antibiotic here shortly. I will keep in on the herbal at least one more day. Praying this will all be behind us and we never have this problem again! Now me on the other hand, I'm still not doing well. I did get a new antibiotic today. The doc had only written me a 7 day script, and I swear it has not been working much. The worst part has been having to go to work - my boss acts like I must be lying or something - I have a huge project & am still working tonight (just snuck on here for a minute) so working this long day is not helping me feel any better. I was feeling decent earlier. Just working long days does not help anyone get well
