| thank you so much I did the search you suggested I found much about it all The Vet called to say the blood work came back confirming the disease with Holly He put her on steroids and a pill to get rid of the water in her chest and belly. He also wants her on rice and low-fat cottage cheese diet this week. I will let you know how all this goes...I am hopeful and thankful for the support Bless you all Nikeann07 |

| I am sorry to hear that Holly has this condition. It is life-threatening, so follow your vet's advice carefully. She needs protein but low fat carbohydrates. It is the fat which causes the loose bloody stools. The fluid on her chest is one of the biggest problems too because they have difficulty breathing and walking. I know it is scary, but read to gain knowledge. The steriods may make her jumpy and piddle more often. No snacks and make sure she is drinking fluids. If you have to, place water in a syringe and gently squeeze down her throat. Did your vet keep her for the day and place her on IV to replace fluids and minerals? Warmly, Deborah

| thank you so much Deborah I went to the Vet again today with Holly and she lost 1.3 lbs.(all water) overnight in pee. Your thoughts on this are just what the Vet suggested. He also said I almost lost her, because he was treating her for a food allergy until the bloat came...so then he did x-rays and blood work. Water was in her tummy and in her chest...in another day the water would have stopped her heart. She never had a fever...her heart is strong still. He also said the disease can be managed but, will never be cured. The right diet will keep her with me for a few more years....I am hoping for many more years. I am so hopeful now...My sweet Holly is so thankful that I am taking care of her that I notice she stays more close to me and gives me hugs and kisses. She is a wonderful patient about all this too. Giving her pills to take has been very easy so far. This treatment will be expensive...but, she is worth it...really worth it. Thank you for your concern and taking the time to let me know your thoughts on all this. I really truly appreciate the help Nikeann/Holly |

| Glad you went to the vet again. The blood panel which is expensive tells the complete story though. Sophie needed Vitamin K injections and I learned to give them at home. She had her first episode of pancreatitis when she was 5 and although she had bouts in the following years, Sophie lived until she was 13; the last few years of her life though were not great for her due to the disease. This disease does cause them to become depressed, very painful and nausea (she may walk away from food for that reason). Mainly, find a vet that you trust, read, read, read and question procedures. Keep posting to YT because there are so many Yorkie parents who have had pups with the same disease that will help you. Warmly, Deborah PS Sophie's would re-appear if she was stressed in the early years such as boarding in a kennel.

| Thank you for sharing your experience with me. ...and so sorry for your loss. Sophie hung in there for 13 years? Your love for her was very strong medicine. Sorry to hear that some of those years were hard...but, you were there for her. I sure hope Holly lives well. The hard part will be in not forgetting that she has the disease and keeping my grand children from feeding her snacks when I am not looking. I want her life to be as normal as possible. I will watch out for depression. thank you for the information Nikeann |

| Thank you everyone for your advice and prayers Holly is having a good afternoon. Eating (hand fed) about 3 Tablespoons of w/d prescription dog can food 4 times today ...and tonight she gets the same brand but in dry kibble about a 4th of a cup. She really misses her chew sticks...but they are a no-no for her. Because of her hard dry stool he took her off Latix for today. He still feels this NEW no-fat... for her... diet has not really kicked in yet...tomorrow should be better for Holly. I believe all your prayers are helping. Nikeann |

| I had a foster pup for a few weeks following bladder stone surgery, and she was on canned prescription food also. I would roll it into small meatballs and ended up hand feeding her also because it is not very flavorful. FYI The prescription food is for short term only, not a complete diet. I am sure eventually your vet will work with you on a new diet for her that is higher in protein and balanced. Glad to hear she had a firm poopy! Hooray.

| Hi again!! Thank you for the heads up about the Vet food being a not forever thing and I like the idea of rolling the food into little meatball sizes...Holly takes it better and faster that way. She was gulping the food...so now I hand feed her... It was a hard few days around here..I did not leave her side. I really need to catch up on some sleep. She had me up for peeing and feeding through each night... every 3 hours....but, now she is on just one latix and then none tomorrow. She wanted always to go outside to pee...even the pee pads were full. The water drinking keeps me filling her water bowls...she has two. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me Nikeann07 |

| Hi I will try to catch a nap today sometime. I feel confident in leaving her home alone with the other 2 yorkies while I do errands for an hour. I am keeping a log on how Holly feels when she pees and how much she eats...so far...she wants to eat every two hours just a couple of tablespoons or less only...or else she just cries so hard it breaks my heart. It still manages to add up to her daily food allowance on can W/D. I think she really misses her chew sticks. Thanks for staying in touch with me...it is very supportive. Nikeann07 |

| Nikeann07 what a wonderful mommy you are to Holly. I hope the meds give her many happy years ahead, for both of you. You must be so tired having to deal with all that has happened in the last couple of days. I do hope it eases up soon and you both get a good night's sleep. Take care and prayer's are coming your way. There is always someone here to help you as you found out. Welcome to YT. |
