| Vomiting I'm a newbie to dog ownership and have adopted two retired show ladies. Madison, the littlest of the 2 at 4.7 lbs. has vomitted about 5 times and is very listless. We had them about 2 months, no new foods introduced, nothing noticible except bits of carrots she got for a treat. Anything to settle her tummy as a home remedy? |

| You can give Pepto Bismol, but I don't know how much.

| You might try some chicken and rice to settle their tummies. Boil white meat chicken in water, and then shred it up in tiny pieces. White or brown rice is fine. Mix about 1/2 and 1/2 together and feed a tablespoon or so and see how that goes. If they keep it down, try feeding a little more. Also, make sure to keep them hydrated. When they're so small they can decline very quickly. Finally, if anything seems "off"-like if the listlessness you mentioned keeps up, they get dehydrated or have more than one bout of diarrhea, please get them to an Emergency vet asap. Better safe than sorry.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | i give a tablespoon of yogurt for digestion problems. its difficult to say whether you should take her to the er for a little vomiting. It depends on how well you know your dog. Mine had a bout of vomting a few weeks ago, which is very unlike her. she vomited up bile at least 5 times in one day and was very sleepy for most of the day. i kept an eye on her and said if she does it again teh next day i'd take her in. the next morning i gave her some yogurt. no more vomiting that day and she had more energy. it wasn't the yogurt that cured her but it helps put good bacteria back into the digestive tract. Also DO NOT feed her for at least 12 hours to give her tummy a rest. if you keep feeding her thinking that she's hungry because she vomited everything up then she's just going to continue to vomit. Also limit her water intake as this can also make her vomit. After 12 hours you can offer her boiled chicken and rice if you wish or give her her regular meal just in a much smaller portion.

I agree. The standard treatment is to rest the tummy for 12 hours, then begin with little meals of easily digestible foods like chicken and rice. If she can keep it down, give her Pedialite so she doesn't lose electrolytes. If she doesn't improve by tomorrow, I'd take her to your vet. These little ones can dehydrate very quickly. You can try Pepto, too, if she can keep that down. The dosage is here: http://www.walkervalleyvet.com/otc-meds.htm | |

| Vomiting Well, thought I should let you know that I got too nervous about all the vomiting (at least 12 times) and took her to the er vet. They gave her sub Q fluids since she was dehydrated and a shot of cerenia to stop the stomach spasms. I feel better even if she doesn't! Thanks for all your help. What a great source of advice and comfort! |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | The cerenia should help calm her stomach now. its a newer drug with better success rates then reglan (metronidazole) and pepcid. i bet you feel better now that you took her in. she'll start feeling better now soon too. i forgot to say before, welcome to YT!!

| I'm glad you took her to the vet. It's amazing how quickly these toy breeds can dehydrate. She should start feeling better pretty soon! |
