| Help please...looking for a new camera I need a new camera! I used to have a Canon Elph and loved it. Somewhere during my house move last year, it was misplaced. I bought a cheap $130 Kodak camera at Sams Club to use til I found the Elph...but I never found it. I'm thinking of now getting the Canon Powershot S95. Anyone know anything about it? I just need a good point & shoot camera to take pics of my kids & ZoE. The biggest annoyance with the Kodak is the delay between when I press the button to take the photo and when the camera actually captures the photo. (I press the button when ZoE is looking right at me & by the time the camera captures it she's either looking away or in the process of turning away which results in just a blur.) I'm not sure what this process is technically called so I'm not sure what feature to look for to make sure that it takes the pic the split-second I press the button. My previous Canon never had this issue, which is one of the main reasons I'm looking to Canon again as my first choice. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Or if you have a recommendation as to what you think would be a good camera for me, that wold be greatly appreciated too! Thank you

| I can't really make a recommendation on a point and shoot, as honestly there are so many good ones out there now that it is hard to choose. But for point and shoots, I do prefer Canons. If you go to the electronics store and browse and play with cameras, then look online at the costumer reviews of the models you like, you will get some good ideas. The term you are referring to about the shutter is called "shutter lag". Look for reviews that say there is NO shutter lag. Hope this helps a bit!

| as a professional photographer, I can tell you that you cannot go wrong with Canon or Nikon. I shoot Nikon, but both brands are excellent!

| The Canons have excellent point and shoot cameras, and I would generally recommend them or Panasonic Lumix for point and shoot. All point and shoot cameras have shutter lag, but some respond faster than others. To avoid it a little, you can pre-focus the camera by depressing the shutter button half way. Once you have the camera focused, you can more readily capture an image quicker. I think the S95 is a really nice camera that is able to capture photos in low light. I really like the f2.0 lens and the fact that it is not more than 10mp on a small sensor. |

| Don't mean to steal the thread but I love to hear more from the pros on which kind to buy.... So the Canon Elph has less of a shutter lag?

| bumping this. Looking for a new camera. I have had all sorts of cameras and hated them all. What is the best camera for good quality pictures? I am not a professional, but would love a great camera.....I am tired of having to resort to my iphone because it takes better pics than my current camera. Any ideas??

| The Kodak Easyshare is the cheap junk I bought at Sams....can't believe we are having such different experiences. I wouldn't take another Kodak even if it were free!

| Any kind of DSLR, so I have read, has no shutter lag at all, but they are expensive. I used to have a Kodak EasyShare and I hated, hated it due to the long shutter lag. I do hope Kodak has improved it........That was my only complaint with it. It died, my son went with me the day after Christmas to buy a Canon Power Shot A2200, 14.1 mega pixel, and I am liking it better every time I use it. Once you get it focused on a shot, there is absolutely no shutter lag at all, so I am quite the happy camper! We bought it at Radio Shack. It's an inexpensive point and shoot, much like the Elph.

| Hi, Have you looked into the canon loyalty program? If you have an old/unusable canon camera, they'll give you 20% off the price of a new camera. You don't have to pay for shipping or shipping to return the old one. Give them a call. I just saved $180 on my new DSLR camera and the camera I had before had a cracked screen. The woman I spoke to was very knowledgeable and helped me decide on a great camera. They have point and shoots too - http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/849344/ There's a thread that goes into specifics Best of luck! I just realized how old this thread was. My apologies. I can't figure out how to delete my reply . |
