| My Shelby-Dale is Sick :( I don't know what it is and the vet is frustrating. I am supposed to be switching vets but I haven't had time yet. So, I had hubby take him to the "old" vet. Here's his symptoms: He has thrown up at least once a day every day, except one, for 10 days. Sometimes it is kibble and sometimes (majority of the time) it is water and/or bile acid with a touch of mucousy texture in it. On 3 of the days, he threw up 2 times. He's been very itchy since we moved into our house last year and has a lot more outside time now. He licks and licks and licks. He caused a hot spot back in May. I noticed a blotchy, red, scaley rash on his belly Monday. It seems like it's faded today. He runs and plays normal. He poops and pees normal. The only change I think I see is his appetite....more WHEN he eats. I free feed and his morning bowl is still full when I get home at 7pm on most days. Hubby said the vet did a fecal test for parasites (which I knew he didn't have so that was silly). So, without a diagnosis of vomiting for 10 days straight, she gave him antibiotics and nausea meds to take. I hate giving antibiotics when I don't know if it is a bacterial infection. That is pointless. Any ideas on what is going on with Shelby? Should I go back in the morning, myself and insist they run a blood test? She said give the meds til Monday and if he's still not better, come back.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Is he vomiting or regurgitating. My Roxie was diagnosed with Reflux. She would eat her food and several hours later regurgitate it back up. She never made the sound they usually make before throwing up. She would all of a sudden just regurgitate a lot of liquid and food mixed in it. My vet put her on priolsac(sp), steroids and metronidazole. She also put her on a short term antibiotic to clear up any bacteria. She also was on a probiotic. We slowly weaned her off all the medicine except for probiotics. It seems to have worked. I hope you can get some answers and some relief for him.

YT Addict | Would any of your neighbors have sprayed anything? Or any change in the routine? Bailey did get throwing up at one point from being kenneled away from me, the vet here gave him Pepcid in a liquid form, nausea meds and also had to go on a bland diet for a few days. There hasn't been an issue in over 4 weeks. The vet said when I kenneled him it cause him stress which upset his tummy. |

| Well, I am almost certain he has some sort of allergies to something outside. I have given him benadryl in the past and will keep doing that. I'm not sure that the vomitting is linked to anything or if it is all linked somehow. It is definitely vomitting and not regurgitation. My husband called an hour ago and said Shelby's poop was yellow. I'm thinking that it might be from the meds the vet gave but I had him take a sample in a baggie for the vet to test.

YT 2000 Club Member | dog Just had Spud to the vet for vomiting and loose stools. She gave him the Metrodiazole and the probiotic paste and put him on a bland diet. He is so much better now. I hope you can figure out what is going on. Did you apply a flea topical on your dog that might cause this reaction? Some dogs get very sick with these flea meds. |

| Because of the skin rash symptom, I doubt this is it, but did they test him for parvo?

| Ten days with vomiting and possible loss of appetite would get him bloods and xrays here. After that long my vet would probably only try medication first if there was a money issue. I would do testing, esp. with loss of appetite, immediately.

| Ok; a possible cause of these symptoms in people (which can often translate to the same disorder in dogs) could be celiac disease-intolerance of glutens -try a gluten free diet? Test: IgA (for autoimmune disorder) And do a skin biopsy of the rash to check for this: Dermatitis herpetiformis, a skin rash caused by gluten consumption, is usually (but not always) one of the itchiest rashes you'll ever experience, and lesions can sting and burn as well as itch. Please let us know what you find out!

| Itchy and vomiting bile, I'd have the liver and pancreas blood testing done to r/o those disorders just for a looksee at current values. Tibbe only vomited bile occasionally and very occas. had a mucous-y stool on one end while the other end was normal! He later got lethargic and anorexic most of the day until evening when he would eat normally and play fine, was himself. Then the next morning he was sleepy well until the evening. Now, he wakes me to get up and feed him, is feisty and no lethargy, anorexia, completely normal stools and all thanks to finding out he likely has MVD and simply changed his diet. His regular liver studies were normal, pancreas CPL snap normal but thanks to Ellie May(Crystal) who said there still could possibly be liver dysfunction even routine liver studies are normal. So when BAT done, his levels were high so we progressed to scintigraphy/ab. sono to r/o shunt, which we did, thankfully. Radiologists and his vets all agreed probably mild MVD, treated with hepatic diet. He was treated with Metronidazole for 10 days and a hepatic diet. He's a new dog! Shelby-Dale, get well fast!!!!!!!!!!!
