| I used to have a beta that looked just like that picture. His name was Snoopy. I've heard that fish have no "brain" and don't know people but it was the funniest thing.... he would swim around and look at me like he was excited when I would talk to him but when my husband did, he would fluff up and act agressive. What was that about??

| I like Sushi or Fizzy Nofeet. Here is my betta, his name is Phinias, Phinni for short. lol, every once in a while I will put a mirror up to him to get his blood pressure pumping as someone said.

| Phinni's a great name for that gorgeous guy! Fizzy McNofeet is so laid back, I'm not sure I've seen a true blood-pumping flare. But I love him. Who knew you could get so attached to fish? He'll follow my finger or just look at me while I'm typing. He'll hang out on the side of the tank I'm on. Maybe it's just that he sees me as his "feeder" but he does seem to have more going on in the wee head of his Here's his new digs!! (Camera phone pics) Since it gets so cold here, I had to put him in a tank with a heater. It's my first aquarium, so it's um...not very "natural" in terms of decor...

| He will love all the nooks and crannies to hide in! I have been wondering if I should put a heater in since the weather is getting colder. I have Phinni's bowl on a cork mat on the counter. The counter gets cold-it is silestone.

From the picture you posted, Phinni looks quite happy in his bowl at that time. I learned that the bubbles form when a male betta is happy/healthy and looking to mate! A little bubble nest like the one at the top of Phinni's bowl forms b/c the mucous in the betta's mouth keeps the bubbles from dissolving. When present, the female lays the eggs in the nest, they get fertilized and.... ok, too much info. But isn't it funny to know exactly when your guy's getting frisky?!

Thank you for letting me know about the cold. Actually Phinni has been at the bottom of the bowl. I guess the water is cold. I actually had to tap the bowl before he gets excited about coming up for food.

| Wow, Fizzy- nice crib! I just checked Betta's on Wikipedia and found out some things I never knew. They can have tank-mates and can eat veggies. I used to think they were lonely little fishies living in puddles(I never understood how they got there to begin with, but that's what I'd always heart), but, now I feel better knowing they lead pretty normal lives. Enjoy your new home, Fizzy. And keep those bubbles coming.
