| sharks - eek i've been watching discovery channel tonight. they are showing their shark shows. i'm trying to learn more about sharks. my niece was attacked by a shark in maui last feb '06. she is doing much better. (thanks again for the prayers and well wishes) i used to adore the ocean and beach. now it makes me feel sick. the ocean used to be my source of relaxation and happiness. i used to spend all my vacations by the sea. in nj, the thing to do is head to the jersey shore in the summertime. i have no interest. my mom has a summer house there and she rented it all summer too. i understand why. just seeing a shark on someones t- shirt or on a dvd box (in blockbuster tonight) makes me upset. i used to think about the ocean when i would meditate. i feel like something that brought us such joy is now destroyed. they say a shark attack is 1 in a million. quite rare. after such a horrible family experience is it normal to feel this way? should i seek medical advice? |

| i wouldnt seek medical attention. i would be scared though, in your situation. i think what you're doing now is perfect. learn about sharks as much as you can, and if you feel comfortable, maybe take a swimimg with sharks class type thing. and instead of thinking about the ocean, why not a relaxing beach? picture you tanning and a hot surfer dude coming a bringing you a piņa colada! ahhh, see, im relaxing already! just do it slowely, soon you'll be swimming in the ocean again!
