| back to college? Hi, all! I was just wondering if anyone out there has gone back to college once they were "older".....I am a stay at home mom of 3 children, ages 10 to 5, and I'm considering going back to school. Hubby is in full support of me, and so are my parents, but honestly I'm a little nervous. For anyone who has done it, is it as scary as I'm thinking it will be? I want to get my teaching degree....that's always been my dream, and I would like to fulfill it. Plus, as a bonus, I would always have the same "vacation" time as my kids!!! Any input would be greatly appreciated!

| I know a number of people who have done it. Have you looked at the campuses lately? There are lots of students who are older than the norm. Go for it!

Hi there, This is just what I have been doing. Now because I did very poorly in high school I started at an online school, which helped give me the courage to see if I was capable. Now I just started this week at an on site school near me. I love it, I feel like I have been doing something with my time other than taking care of 6 kids. Good luck, and dont worry, trust me you will be surprised at how many people are in the classes the same age or older than you, all of us starting over!!!

| Thank you!! Thank you both so much for your encouragement! I think I'm going to do it! I think I'll start out at a junior college just to get back in the "swing of things", and then I'll transfer to a university! I'm so excited!!!!

| GO FOR IT!!! I graduated from college at age 22, then I went back at age 28 and then again at age 38. Each time was exciting and an adventure! Now, I teach on the University level and we have older students all the time. It is never too late to go back and you will never regret it! My daughter has her teaching degree and it is so great to have the same vacation schedule as your kids. Of course, teachers don't make a ton of money, but it is very rewarding work and when you calculate your salary for approximately 9 months - over what you would make if you worked 12 months, it's not bad at all! You can choose to work at an entirely different type of job over the summer - or you can take summers of to be with your kids. It's great! Good luck with everything!!!

| GO FOR IT!!!! I completed my MA at age 28 and am hoping to return in the next few years for my PhD! The avareage age at my University was 30 for undergrad students. I teach at the college level now and I appreciate the older students so much more b/c they have life experience and they are there because they want to be! You have my full support! I encourage you completely! |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Go for it! My dtr is in her 2nd year at a Junior college and we just went to get her books $411.00 and as we were walking in she said that there are so many "older people in her classes this semester. She said one man is 68 years old in her Humanities class.

| My school has "non traditional" students. A few women in my classes are in their 40s. I say go for it! You'll blend right in

| Im 19 and i go to a nearby community college where there are more middle-aged people than people my age. So I think its very popular for people to go back to college after many years. I think its a wonderful idea to go back |

| I also say GO FOR IT! I went back to school at 28... With two kids ages 6 and 8, my husband had just left me and I went for it. I graduated with my bachelors of Social work degree at 32. It was the best thing I ever did for me and for my family! It isn't easy at times, but it is well worth it! I learned to study totally different than I did when I was younger. I read all my assignments/notes into a tape recorder and then studied off of it- while doing dishes, driving to and from school, in the shower, under my pillow at night...... You just do what you have to do without giving up! You can do anything you set your mind too!
