Anyone bilingual??

Just wondering who on YT speaks another language besides English I myself am half Hispanic (dad is 50/50 Mexican/puerto Rican) but sadly I don't know the language fluently. It's a big regret in my life, not being able to speak Spanish when my grandparents barely know English. My grandmother is in the hospital very, very ill and about to lose her battle...and I came to the realisation that I always intended to learn Spanish, but never got around to it. It made me really sad to think I failed my grandmother, in a way. My three sisters all know Spanish fluently.

Anyways, I'd love to see who knows another language. It's super interesting to me! My bf for example knows German. Is he German? No but he studied it in school and kept at it and is now very nearly fluent.

It used to be such a great extra skill, could help set you apart and help you land a job. But these days its almost like you HAVE to be bilingual.

Also, anyone have success with Rosetta Stone?

I heard very good reviews about it, I was born in Puerto Rico, I speak spanish very fluently, English is my second language. hence when i talk to some of the ladies on the phone, they all say I love your accent..LOL, is never too late to learn something new.. best of luck..

My 4 nephews are bilingual -- their mom is Mexican. I believe all children should start learning a second language as early as possible in life. Once you learn a second language, it seems to be easier to learn more languages. I also believe it benefits learning in general -- there is scientific evidence of the positive physical impact on the brain.

My father regrets that his mother and grandparents refused to teach him Dutch. They wanted the kids to be English-speaking only. Dad jokes that they really wanted to keep the language to themselves so that they could talk among themselves without the kids understanding.

I am trilingual I speak English, Spanish and Portuguese fluently. I feel very fortunate to have been able to learn these three languages and I use them all on a daily basis at work.

I took 4 years of Spanish and can speak a little. I bought Rosetta Stone about 6 months ago for my husband, son and I and have yet to open it. I have heard great things about it too. I need to get moving!

In Canada, most kids learn French up until the 6th grade. Since I am from a small town, there was no French offered in our school after that. So I know basic words and basic sentences. Enough to get by I guess! I was sick in France last year and between my husband and I we were able to tell a pharmacist it was my throat, my nose, and asked how much the medicine (cough drops) would cost. But putting together sentences beyond that is tough!

Another thing that helps up here is that it's the law that all products have French wording on them as well. So seeing the same words on the same products for my whole life really engrains those words in my head! I can tell you what almost anything is in French, but I can't tell you about it in a sentence lol!

My neice is in a French immersion school, so everything is in French, and she is doing great! However, I had a few cousins in French immersion as well, and their English skills were REALLY lacking. They could spell French words perfectly, but not simple English words. So I think it's great if there is equal emphasis on BOTH languages, or maybe even more on the language most used at home and in business (in the case here, English).

I took 5 years of spanish in middle school/ high school... sadly I don't remember much

My kids and I are doing rosetta stone for Irish, Italian and Spanish.

We need to get routine though it's just been a summer thing really.

My Hmong well I haven't spoken it in years but I can get the jist if ease dropping lol.

We say some prayers in Lakota...we really need to pick a language and learn it fluently though.

Oh we speak CA Spanish lol which means we speak it minimally and very poorly.

I speak quite a bit of Spanish, I am just not quite fluent. I took it in high school, college and hear it and use it almost every day in the classroom.

There are great reviews about Rosetta Stone. I would give it a try I speak Spanish fluently,Both of my parents are from Puerto Rico.. Living in NYC it is a big help at work. Good luck Carmen

I took spanish from 2ndthe grade through 12th. I was actually in IB spanish which for those of you who don't know, IB is higher than honors level and you recieve college credit. I barely remember a thing. So sad, I just didnt keep it up in college and I didnt retain a thing. I can speak enough to get around if I were to go to a spanish speaking country, but I cant hold a convo.

In college I was studying choral music ed and have sung many songs in Spanish, German, French, Italian, and Latin. My favorite language to sing in is latin! So gorgeous, like gregorian chanting.

I am bilingual and want to become trilingual. I'm looking into the Rosetta Stone French. In high school I took both Latin and Spanish. None of which I'm fluent in but that is like a decade ago.
