YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Such Sad News! Some may be aware of the senseless killings in the city I live in; Toronto, Ontario. Monday evening 2 dead, 22 wounded in a shooting spree at a block BBQ. It was not the first, but the most egregious, the most number of wounded. Prior this one, we had Little Italy, Fireworks, and Eaton's center shooting. We got lucky there as despite a spree of bullets, not many injured or dead. Now one young lady at The Eatons' Center, just minutes before the shooting. left; as she had a prescient "bad feeling". She was spared the hail of bullets there. Just this morning, this same young woman, was visiting Aurora, Colorado a small town. She was at the movie theatre, when a gun man apparently erupted with his hatefull spree of bullets; she is believed dead!. Her brother enroute to Colorado, isn't sure at this moment if she is dead; her friend who was with her and also hit by bullets, believes that she is; he saw her struck twice. This tradegy of gun violence is something I can not fathom. What drives these folks to erupt, and in callous disregard of human life, snuff it out? I have no answers, I only have prayers and the hope, that one day we may create a world that the youth, the young and the old, will be able to live in peace with themselves and each other.

| It's a shame he didn't just turn that gun on himself instead of dozens of innocent people who had nothing to do with whatever his problems in life are. I understand there may be even children dead or injured by this fiend! Why do they want to hurt others? He apparently was well-armed and wearing a vest, etc., to protect himself. That is such a tragic story about that poor young woman, escaping death once and now perhaps not. So sad that rather than getting help, people want to hurt and kill others.

| I had read, in some research papers years ago, that crack cocaine actually changes the DNA structure, chromosome structure, so that children born to crack addicted parents actually have no remorse. That was the explanation this particular study was using to try to explane why some young people today have committed very heinous crimes and have shown absolutely no remorse, and sit hollow-eyed, with souless stares in courtrooms all over the country. I do not think this is a plausible excuse in this young mans case....genius borders on insanity, they say.....genius has never been my strong suit, so I dont know.....! Whatever, this is just another nut that has flipped out and conjured up some reason why he felt he needed to eliminate as many innocent humans as he possibly could......so sad...... |

That is so frightening. That poor woman was spared once but not the second time. We all need to be prepared to breath our last in a split second. I am a Christian and know where I am going when I die. We all need to be prepared. Maybe this lady made it. I pray that is the case. God bless and comfort all envolved and their families. Louise

| I too just heard of the news in Aurora. Made even worse as it came on the heels of the tragedy in my hometown of Toronto only an hour from where I now live. I can't even begin to imagine the agony of losing a loved one like this. A 14 child dead in Toronto and the youngest in Aurora, a 9 year old. These little girls lives were cut short before they even really began. I can't understand the thought that goes through the minds of the gunmen who act as reaper with no regard for the pain they cause. Is it a mental health issue left untreated due to a lack of interest on the part of our health care system? Is it drug use as YorkieMom1 has offered as a possible reason? I don't think that anyone will ever truly know. What has changed in our society that has created such rage and lack of regard for human life? There have been so many changes in our social structure that it's probably impossible to pinpoint the issue. All I do know is that my heart goes out to those who are suffering as a result of these acts of violence.

| I read 12 deaths and 59 injured. He was a doctoral student and apparently has booby traped his apartment too. I just don't understand why people do things like this. Very very sad.

♥Love My 3 Furrbutts♥ Donating Member | My fiance lives just around the corner from where the shooting happened in Toronto...I am outside of the city. It was for this very reason that I left the city I grew up in. As some of you know I am a single mom to three now grown children. I no longer felt secure raising my kids there...two of them are boys. We try and do the best we can with the youth, but sometimes things go wrong and/or they get with bad company. I could see one of my boys heading in that very direction, I had the means to leave, others do not. I feel for the families that lost loved ones and the ones that were hurt. My heart just aches reading what has happened. On a side note one of the victims Josh the 23 year old killed, went to the same school as my boys. He was not from the area, but from Ajax the town next door to mine. My youngest son knew him well. This is now the second funeral my son has to leave school to come home for....I am just heart broken.....

Personally I wish the movie industry would go back to doing more movies geared to good things and not the violence that it has been producing, far too many years. Our nation needs to go back to values it once held, God help us get through these times of all going on, it is so very sad. Hugs, Patti and Jack Thank you Gemy for starting this thread,
