Our vacation in the Dominican turned out to be horrible. Maybe I am cursed!

So I went on vacation with my husband our two daughters and 26 other people (family and friends) We went to Bahia Principe in the Dominican.

First our rooms weren't ready and after having been up for 34 hours I was SO tired. We finally got our room key 2 hours after check in time and the room was not very clean. Dust and dirt on the floor and two twin beds as hard as rocks were shoved together. Oh well no biggie.

There was the smell of sewage in various locations but again no biggie. Our coffee maker was broken, wake up calls never happened and all the lights on the grounds were shut off after 11:30 making the place as dark as pitch but again no biggie.

Our daughter was attacked by one of the staff. He tried to kiss her and when she clamped her mouth shut he started to lick her mouth after putting his open mouth over hers. Another staff pulled him off of her and he attacked her again. He then bent down and started to kiss her thighs, the other staff once again pulled him off. When he assaulted her again by licking her neck the other staff threw his hands up in the air and took off. My DD finally got away and ran and he started yelling "come back" and "I will see you tomorrow!"

She pounded on our door at 11:30 and I opened it to find her sobbing. I stormed down to the front desk and they acted as if so what. Not once did anyone apologize or ask if she was okay. I finally demanded to see the manager and he said that they would be firing the guy. Again no apology just the statement that he would be fired. So great he wont get to do this again but our vacation was destroyed.

I went to our sunquest rep and told her. I also told her that my DD had phoned her boyfriend as she was distraught and needed to talk to him and that I would NOT be paying for a call she should have not been compelled to make. She ensured that it would be taken care of. There was no apology from her either. I asked if there would be any compensation for what she had endured and she said no that they phone call being taken care of was all that they were prepared to do. Woopie but fine whatever, the rest of the trip had been a joke so why would I expect any better.

Upon check out we were handed a bill for 94 dollars for the call she made!!!! There were dozens of other screw ups that I have left out in the sake of keeping this as short as possible and now to top it all off we had to pay for the call that she made after being attacked by a 30 something pervert. My poor DD is only 20 and had been so afraid to leave Canada for fear that something would happen. She now says that she will NEVER leave Canada again so this was our first and last trip with her.

It makes me so angry that not one person gave a crap! This place was awful. The whole time I heard looky looky sexy mama and ola baby. The staff had the drunken 18 and 20 yr old girls up grinding and posing their best sex poses. It was gross!!! I was so tired of the SEX this and SEX that by the end of the week that I wanted to scream. I have never been so glad to go home in my life.

Never Never go to the Bahia Principe in the Dominican and I strongly suggest dealing with someone other than sunquest for booking a trip.

After all the hell that our family has been through these past few years it was so painful to have our vacation ruined too. I am wondering what on earth I did to attract so much heartache.

Lots of people use Trip Advisor, so hopefully you can warn others so that they can avoid the place and put a dent in their business. I would also look for other places on the internet where you can place a review, and write a letter or file a complaint with the Dom Rep's tourist officials. With the economy the way it is, resorts and tourist economies are hurting, so hopefully they will take this seriously. If not, write more reviews where everyone can see how officials in that country treats their guests.

I already posted on Trip Advisor. There were so many positive reviews?!?! that I am not sure how seriously mine will be taken. Leaves me wondering even more if its personal somehow (yep the parinoids are out to get me) Actually there were others on the trip who had bad experiences but nothing like ours. The place was FULL of drunken kids and it scares me that they could be vulernable in the state that they were in. What I cant understand is why he went after my sober DD who barely drank on the trip!

I will be taking your advice and writing to the tourist officials. Hope that they care unlike the resort.

I am so sorry you had a terrible vacation. On the situation with your daughter, could you not have filed a police report?

Impossible to file in another country. We were never advised by our agent and I had no idea how to even start. I trusted our agent. BIG mistake!!!

My DD is ok thank God! I gave her TONS of support and stayed by her side from Tuesday night until we left on Friday. Thankfully we are really close

I checked on tripadvisor and they have not posted my review. I guess they pick and choose. I will be so angry if they dont warn others!

In my opinion you need to take the matter with your daughter as far as possible (beyond a bad review on Trip Advisor). I would definitely make a police report, did the hotel property file an incident report?

I would start with the Property Manager, put your complaint in writing to him/her ask for a copy of the incident report (if there is one). My next step would be going to their corporate office and the police and wherever.

When I read you post I felt horrible for your daughter, I am glad you were there for her.

Oh...I'm so very sorry for your daughter and your family. I don't have any advice but wanted to let you know I care. Bless your daughter's heart, I'm so thankful she is physically ok, though I know not emotionally. How terrifying for her. So sorry.

The law means nothing in the Dominican and Haiti. They are easily bought, and areas are owned by drug lords and gangs.... The law would have probably made it worse.

Oh my gosh! I am so so very sorry that your trip was a diaster. I cannot believe what happed to your daughter. I am in shock! You have every right to be livid. I am almost afraid to ask, but is this your daughter that is suffering from an eating disorder?

Also, I wonder if it is a publically traded company? If so, you might be able to get more information about the higher ups of the company and write to someone who will actually do something to compensate for your distress.

Thankfully it wasn't my DD with the eating disorder. I am not sure if she would have had the mental strength to have been okay after such an incident. I was really sick for a couple of days but thank God I am feeling better tonight. I had almost lost my voice so calling anyone was not an option. I am calling Sunquest tomorrow to lodge a complaint about the rep who promised to take care of the phone bill and didn't. I also want to tell them about the resort and that its not the right place to send families. I still feel like I need a shower to wash the yuck off of me from all of the leering pervs.

I am so hoping that this string of bad luck and stress ends. Our family has been through SO much for the last 4+ years and this trip was supposed to be a time for us to rest and lick our wounds. Still cant believe that was a disaster too. Thanks so much to all of my YT friends for caring and for your words of advice and support.

Maybe posting your experience on Facebook would at least let other people know what to expect if they still choose to go there. I'm sorry your family's vacation was a disaster. No one deserves that kind of treatment, ever!

I'm so sorry that your trip turned out to be so terrible I'd bet money that the perv that attacked your daughter was not only NOT fired, but probably is getting high fives from all the other jerkoffs there To spend a ton of money for a lousy trip is just not right, and maybe it might be worth it to sue that sunquest place. Obviously they SUCK and don't know what the heck they're sending folks into.
