| Totally confused!!! Tomorrow 3 men are digging up the Sago palm trees that almost killed my two girls. Two different people asked what I planned to do with the trees. I said I was taking them to the dump. Both people asked if they could have them. (They are very expensive trees.) The problem is this, BOTH these people have dogs! What part of this tree kills dogs are they not getting? Maybe they plan to put it somewhere the dog can't get to it. Maybe I am just too emotional right now.

♥My Lil' Monkey Girl♥ Donating Member | I would inform them as they may not know....and maybe they are putting somewhere they wont be able to get to....just relax and ask them and let them know that is the reason you are removing them. Good Luck!

| I agree. Think it would be a good idea to speak with them again about your experience with the trees & what it did to your dogs and assure that they would be putting them in a safe location, where their dogs cant reach them. Maybe its not even for their home.. Never know

| You poor sweet thing. I know your nerves must be shattered. And just thinking that these trees would be in a yard with dogs would make matters worse. I would let the people know why you are removing the trees, caution them and if they still want the trees, I would let them have them. Maybe the trees will go in a loclation that is completely out of reach for the dogs or maybe their dogs don't bother trees. My Boxer wouldn't dream of eating a leaf, but if it was a rock, I'd have to pass cause she can't leave rocks alone. |

That is the weird part. I told them why I am removing them. I told them the whole horrible story.

| HOnestly, If i were in your position, I would burn the trees, expensive or not. becaue they could end up in the wrong hands, Especially if left a dump. Also, your dump probably has stray cats and rats and stuff. It may be harmful to them as well. |

My little Shadow Donating YT Member | Don't be too hard on yourself. You have every right to be emotional now! It has touched my heart so & I am attached to yr sweet babies from afar. I would come right out & ask, "Do you plan to put these in yr yard having dogs yourself, knowing they are poisonous?". You never know about some people. Perhaps they want them to sell to someone else for profit?? Plus I know you are emotional in that you would not want this to happen to any dog.

| This tree drop nuts the size of a small rubber ball. I think that is what my girls must have gotten because there are no branches or leaves close to the ground.

♥My Lil' Monkey Girl♥ Donating Member | I do agree with the above as if you do get rid of them it is better to burn them so there is no chance any animal will be harmed by them.

| I wish I had a hand grenade! I swear Im going on a crusade to warn others. I am writing a letter to the local paper. I have also thought about posting fliers. I would like to stand outside the local garden center and warn people, but I would probably get arrested.

I posted this on another thread for those, like me, who did not know: Like many, I had no idea that these palms were poisonous. Searching though, I found so "many" that I was not aware were dangerous to our babies. Common Poisonous Plants | The Humane Society of the United States I had no idea: Azaleas, Rhododendron which I have. I'm sure there are so many that are specific to your area. Continuing Prayers for Baby Chloe!!

| I'm sorry these trees got your dog sick but I know numerous people who have these trees in their yard AND own dogs. I think it depends on the dog. Some dogs do not pay attention to plants and can live with them fine.

| I don't blame you. I would feel the same way. If anything happened to their dogs then they would probably blame you. People can be something else sometimes. I would not let anyone take them. I didn't realize or think about plants either because my schnauzers never get into anything. When we got Kayla, which was our first experience with yorkies, I didn't know she would chew on everything and bring everything in from outside. I even got rid of my ivy. I didn't know that just plain ole' ivy is poisonous to them too. Hope that baby gets better soon. I know its a relief that the other one got to come home. Prayers for little Chloe!!! |
