| stupid random question of the day LOL ok...so I lay in bed at night and think of some of the stupidest questions...and I feel the need to ask them here so..we know that when cats use the bathroom, they kinda dig a small hole, potty in it, then attempt to cover it up... well...do wild cats (lions, tigers, panthers, etc) do the same thing??? I mean...I would assume that they do. BUT..I can't say I have ever seen it happen. wether I am at the zoo...or watching something on tv. I have just never seen a wild cat do it LOL and what about other animals...do they feel the need to cover up their "business"??? I just wonder what makes a cat do this LOL I told you it was random LOL

| It is my experience from watching National Geographic, that even wild cats cover there "business" when they are done. Apparently it is to cover up their smell so as not to let their predators know they were there or how long ago they had been there. That's my 2 cents (Cdn)

| From what I know, they do. I had to laugh at this post because those are the kind of things that I wonder about too. Just random, off the wall things. Sometimes I will ask my husband an off the wall question, and he'll look at me and say "where do you get this stuff?" lol

| Wow...ONE of us needs a life, ROFL...my cats do it, but it's never even entered the recesses of my consciousness if other larger cats do...and the funny thing is, since I'll never have one of them in my confines.............hmmm..yep......I officially don't care, LOL. Just as long as none of my neighbors get one as a pet and it's jumping over the wall to use my yard as their "sandbox"

| I love to watch the big cats on television. The Siberian tiger is my favorite animal. As far as I know, in the wild the submissive cat will bury their waste so they do not challenge the dominant cat. The alpha leaves it uncovered (it's called middening when with feces or marking with urine) to mark their territory and show dominance as the top cat.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Actually house cats get their behavior from the big cats. Big cats bury their waste, will kill the cubs of another male, purr, and loads of other stuff they have in common.

| Here's a great site for why cat's "do what they do"... Why Do Cats...? ~ Pawprints and Purrs. Inc. A quote from the site... <<<<<Why do cats cover their feces? Many people believe they bury their waste products because they are fastidious. That isn't necessarily so. In the wild, only secondary cats bury their waste to protect their trail from predators. The dominant feline will actually display his or her feces prominently. This sends a strong message of dominance. In the world of house cats, you are the dominant animal and the house cat chooses not to offend you. They will carefully bury their feces to eliminate interfering with what they perceive as the natural order.>>>>

| LOL this reminds me of the most random thought I had once in college, and I spent a few days of hardcore internet research trying to find the answer! My friend also got really into it when I told him and we were both searching and searching... I don't know if I ever found the answer to my question though, and I'm kind of embarassed to tell people what the question was now!
