| Need help with a deleted file I have been saving my thousands of pictures to cd's (to get them off my computer)....and as I was saving them, dividing them into catagories, etc...I seemed to have deleted awhole file of pictures.... I know, I have most of the pictures (hopefully) still on the camera card...but I don't know because I can't even remember what all was in that file. I thought that things were never really deleted off your computer...but I can't find it. I even searched the recycling bin, but I have it set where things are automatically deleted (I have changed that now). So, it isn't there. What else can I do...where else can I look...or am I just out of luck? THANKS!!

| You might try using System Restore. Also, there used to be a DOS command that was something like undelete, but you would need to know the name of the file. And last, you might try downloads.com to see if you can find a free trial of a program that will find and restore deleted files. |

My little Shadow Donating YT Member | Try reloading from your camera card. If the pictures are already on your computer, it will tell you and only load what isn't there. Also, if you haven't emptied the recyle bin, you should be able to find them there too. Good Luck!

| Here is a link to what is supposed to be a free program that will restore deleted files: http://easyfilerecovery.com/data-rec...ookieSupport=1 You could also look at www.downloads.com for a free/shareware program that will do the same. Trish |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Are you using Windows software? Newer ones have system restore. Click control panel, click performance and maintenance, click system...you'll see a tab for system restore. You can chose a date earlier than today....and voila...your deleted file is undeleted.

| Yes, I have system restore.....I found the file, but all the pictures are gone out of it. So, apparently, somehow, the pictures were deleted out of the file, but the file is still there.....(does that make sense)? Should I still do system restore and do you think that will find the pictures that were in that file?

Also, all of my "deleted" files do NOT go into my recycle bin where they are stored until I delete them from there...I had that set on delete files instead of storing them in the recycle bin...so, when I click on recycle bin, there is nothing in there. I have since changed that setting though!

| System Restore might work for you. I would try that first. I just can't remember if it restores deleted files, but I think it does. I think it puts them right back where they were.

| System Restore will not restore the deleted files. Here is a breakdown of what it will and will not restore: The following are restored when you use System Restore to restore your system to a previous time using a restore point: bullet Registry bullet Profiles (local only—roaming user profiles not impacted by restore) bullet COM+ DB bullet WFP.dll cache bullet WMI DB bullet IIS Metabase bullet Files type which are monitored by System Restore as specified in the SDK available from http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en...extensions.asp. The following are not restored by System Restore: bullet DRM settings bullet Passwords in the SAM hive. bullet WPA settings (Windows authentication information is not restored) bullet Specific directories/files listed in the Monitored File Extensions list in the System Restore section of the Platform SDK e.g. 'My Documents' folder. bullet Any file types not monitored by System Restore like personal data files e.g. .doc, .jpg, .txt etc. bullet Items listed in both Filesnottobackup and KeysnottoRestore (hklm->system->controlset001->control->backuprestore->filesnottobackup and keysnottorestore) in the registry. bullet User-created data stored in the user profile bullet Contents of redirected folders I still think that your best bet is to look into a third party program to restore the files.
