Donating YT 11K Club Member | Apple pie So this Thanksgiving i want to contribute and make something since my family always cook, but i want to make something sweet and try to make an apple pie. I have never made a pie before, does anyone know the recipe and how to do it? Is it hard?

| My less than $0.02 advice - Far be it from me to say it would be impossible for a person with limited baking experience to bake a passable apple pie on their first try at baking. However, I have to suggest starting with something a little more basic. How about starting with a pumpkin pie with a homemade pie crust? JMHO |

| I'll look for my recipe. I know you need a bag of Mcintosh or Red Delious apples, two pie crusts, sugar, cinnamon, butter, but I have to look up how much of each. I think it's easy to make.

Therapy Dog Donating Member | Apple Pie without the Crust This is so yummy and easy to make and no dough making....it's been a family tradition at every Thanksgiving besides the pumpkin pie!! I hope someone makes it and enjoys as much as we do. This is for 2 pies or 1 large Apple Pie 10-12 medium size apples sliced, cored and peeled (I use Granny Smith) - I have one of those W-S apples corers machines and it's awesome. You can leave the apples slices as is but I cut mine in half for smaller apples pieces. 1-1/2 cups sugar 2-1/2 tsps. cinnamon 1 tsp. vanilla 4T lemon juice but I use a little more Mix all above together and then sprinkle 3Tablespoons tapioca on apple mixture. Put apple mixture into a nice, large pie plate (I have one from Williams-Sonoma that's awesome and my friend uses one from Pampered Chef). or two small ones. Apple Crumb Topping 1-1/2 cups flour 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar 1/2 cup butter (very cold butter cut in pieces) - use real butter combine the flour and brown sugar...add cup up pieces of butter and either use a fork till crumbly or use pastry cutter (that's what I use) Cover loosely with foil at 350 degrees for about 55 minutes. In the meantime: combine 1 cup sour cream, 1 egg and 1/4 cup brown sugar. After 55 min in the oven remove the foil and pour evening over apple mixture. Combine your topping and sprinkle over pie - do not put foil back on Return to oven for 5-10 minutes until topping is lightly toasted or pie is heated through and apples are soft. or you can bake your pie at 450 degrees for 10 minutes, reduce heat to 350 degrees for 35 more - remove - top pie with crumb mixture for 15 minutes more. Every oven is different so check. Top with vanilla ice cream or around the holidays some ice cream places have cinnamon ice cream. You can also make your own crust and use too if you want.

| Sorry if this is a stupid question, but let me see if I have this right...You prepare the apple pie mixture and put it in the oven for 55 minutes loosely covered with foil...Then you do the crumb topping and add the sour cream mixture to that...Then after the 55 min of the pie being in the oven, you add the crumb topping and sour cream mixture to the top of the apple pie mixture and place back in the oven without foil for 5-10 min.

Sorry if it didn't sound right....lol...it's from my head not a recipe card...OK Prepare apple pie mixture and put in oven loosely covered with foil for 55 min. While the pie is baking prepare your crumb topping mixture - set aside Prepare the sour cream mixture - set aside After 55 minutes - pour the sour cream mixture over the apples then top with the crumb topping and put back into the oven. Hope that makes sense now..

Thank goodness you were able to follow my recipe directions since it wasn't written down only in my head - yikes and I had a typo in the recipe - should have been to pour the sour cream mixture "evenly" over the apples...

Congratulations, you are now a "cook". You know, now that you took pies, they'll expect you to bring pie and a "fluffy salad" next time!!!!
