| 62 degree temperature at home In an effort to save on my heating bill this year I was thinking of setting the daytime temp to 62 degrees. Do you think this would be to cold for the little one? In the past I always left it at 65 and she did fine with just a sweater on while I was at work. I have a programmable thermostat so I have it set for a high of 68 and low of 65. It drops to 65 after I leave for work, at 4:00 it goes up to 68 by the time I get home and then it drops down to 65 again at 10 at night. Same schedule on weekends. I live in Delaware and it can get pretty cold here. My house is well insulated and Brandi has plenty of sweaters plus I get plenty of sunshine throughout the whole houes. The cat, well she always manages to find the warmest spot in the house. So will 62 degrees be to cold for her? Last edited by yavenay; 11-01-2010 at 07:24 AM. |

| I don't know about the dog, but I sure would not be able to stay in a house with the temperature set at 68, let alone 62. I am in New York - so I can relate to the cold weather - but my house is set at a toasty 74 degrees during the day and it drops down to 68 when we go to sleep. Although I'm sure dogs can be fine in that temperature - but boy does that sound cold to me.

| It really isn't that bad.....like I said my house is very well insulated and I usually wear sweat shirts and sweat pants. I dressed in layers plus I have a small space heater. I've been leaving it at 68 for yrs so I am use to it and so are my furbabies. But last year my heating bill was higher than I had budgeted for almost reaching 400.00 in one month. I do realize we had an unusually cold and snowy winter last year but I almost dropped dead when I saw that 400.00 bill. |

| That is fine. I dont like a warm house at all and we keep ours cooler and mine are fine. Sometimes I put sweaters on them if it gets too low.

| My house is at 62. Troy does fine during the day. If he's chilly or whatever he's got plenty to snuggle into. My bed is a prime example! LOL |

| My house temp is set at 62 for now. When it gets into the colder months I will fluctuate between 64 - 66.

| Cool.....I will try it. I have webcam so I can check on her from work. Hopefully when I get home from work she wont have frostbite. I know my cat will be okay as she is an expert at finding the warmest place in the house. She will go underneath by covers. Brandi won't though....to be honest I think she likes it when it's cooler. |

| They adapt better than we do. I agree - *I* would be cold, but the dogs will be fine with a shirt on. Leave blankets out and squishy beds for her to snuggle into. Can you leave a dog bed in a window that gets sun? Mine lay in the sun all day long. I find that my dogs are colder NOW, when it's still 50 degrees/30ish at night. By January when it's 10 degrees they go outside naked and get annoyed if I make them put a coat on. Once they adjust, they are good to go.

| yes, there's a window that my couch backs up too, where she is always sitting. Plenty of sunshine. |

| I think it will be fine if they have a warm place to lay. I don't like my house super warm because I get uncomfortable. I prefer to lay under blankets on the couch and like the house cool at night so I can cuddle under the covers without getting hot.

| Mine have never had a sick day in their lives, and one was three in Sept., one will be five next month and the other will be five in January, and we keep the thermostate set at 68 days and 62 nights. I put shirts or pj's on them when it gets real chilly.
