For anybody living in Minnesota, you've most likely heard about this court case in the media. But this MN Puppy Mill also sold a lot of dogs out to the east coast as well. I think, people need to see this video. Kathy Jo Bauck was just last week acquitted of felony charges and is now awaiting sentencing for her remaining misdemeanor charges. This is why we need to change the current laws. This undercover video is now available to the public and you can see part 1 and 2 on YouTube. Spread the word to put an end to Puppy Mills!

Misdemeanor charges? Alot of you know how I feel about puppy mills. What I want to say here I can't. This amounts to nothing short of torture. Video cannot lie. She needs to be found guilty and punished. This video needs to get out so people can see. The usda in this country is a joke. These dogs need to be taken away now!! Thank you johnniewalker for posting the truth on this woman. I think alot of us here were wondering about the outcome, sorry to see felony charges couldn't stick.

What the H_LL is wrong with those people??? To not get vet treatment for some of those dogs that really, really needed it is nothing less than neglect & torture.

For some reason they couldn't make the Felony Charges stick but I sure as H_LL hope they give that woman the maxium penalty for the Misdemeaner Charges.

I couldn't watch it past the Mastiff seizing and later being shot. All I can say is I would go to jail for what I'd do to those involved. I really hate people and what our world has become. My husband pleads with me not to watch things like this and part of me don't want to but the other part realizes that if we burry our heads then for real nothing will get done to help the next victim. I just watched a video last night about training methods going on in the Bolivia Army. It was horrendous. They have training where they take dogs and tie their limbs then repeatedly stab them and you can hear the poor things screaming. The claim is our US military has taught the training tactics to them. If that's true then it makes me ashamed to be a US Citizen. It was absolutely heartbreaking. I've always been involved in rescue but I'm finding myself becoming more and more of an activist with animal rights. I'm really sickened by things I read and watch. My boys are 13 and 15 and I've said it for years but when they are on their own I have evey intention of moving to one of these big puppymill states and buying a small farm house where I can really become active in rescue. It's been a life long dream of mine. I just feel I have to do more. That we all have to do more. The problem is too much money is exchanging hands and that goes for our government too. All the money made on these pups in petstores, if the government shuts the mills down and restricts the sale of dogs in pet shops think about all the tax dollars they will lose. So if you wonder why more isn't being done to help these dogs it all starts with our government and the almighty dollar. Elaine

That is SO sad. I couldn't even watch all of it. I ran into what I believed to be a puppy mill owner when I was looking for my Yorkie. She was relentless, really wanted me to buy. I refused. Now I wish I could track her down and get her into trouble but there are no regulations on puppy mills in WI.

I was beyond words when I heard the outcome the other day. I can't say what I want to, and I don't even want to admit I live in the same state. There has got to be a special place in h*ll for people like this. But if they keep getting off this easy what's the risk to them? The animals clearly pay the price.

I'm in Minnesota too. I can't watch the videos, my heart cries out in pain when I watch these things. I just can't imagine it, and when I see it, it just hurts beyond imagineation.

I try to point as many potential new dog owners to videos like this and anything that explains what puppymills and byb are all about. PEt stores, etc.

Besides writing to representatives in our states, what do we do??????

How do we change the laws so dogs, animals, pets, are not consideered live stock and under usda control????

HOW DO WE CHANGE THIS????? HOW DO WE STOP THIS INHUMANITY???

Puppy Mill Busted in Minnesota, Owner Charged with Animal Torture
Kathy Bauck, owner of "Pick of the Litter", supplier to Pet Land, in trouble, again . . . 9 counts, and its not the first time.

52-year-old Kathy Bauck, owner of the notorious "Pick of the Litter" puppy mill, that supplies puppies to pet stores, including Pet Land, has been charged with nine counts of felony animal cruelty, torture, and practicing veterinary medicine without a license. Bauck has been charged before, but continues operating due to many failures in the animal welfare community and the legal system.

Bauck operates what is widely regarded as the largest puppy mill in Minnesota, and one of the largest puppy mills in the nation. Reports put the number of breeding animals at her facilitiy between 900 and 1,300 breeding adults plus puppies. That could equal up to 2,000 animals on her property at any time. Many people in the animal welfare community believe the sheer volume of abuse at this puppy mill has prevented authorities from stopping it.

Bauck resides in rural Otter Tail county that has few resourses available for law enforcement. The costs of seizing, impounding and caring for up to 2,000 animals in a full-scale animal cruelty case could cost the county millions of dollars, which they do not have. So, the abuse goes on year after year.

Animal Ark will be contacting Otter Tail county and offering a pro-bono solution to this problem. Check back for more information as it is available.

Bauck is currently on probation for convictions on similar charges. It is unknown how the current charges will affect Bauck's probation.

Contact your state representative. I have attached a link so you can see if your local representative voted no on the current legislation to help in stamping out puppy mills. (I hope the link works) I had signed a recent petition at the Mpls Dog Expo and received a letter from my Rep, Mary Kiffmeyer that she will help push this bill in 2010. Write letters, send emails, call, sign petitions, be a voice for the innocent.
