| My baby is in the hospital I have a teacup yorkie that turned one years old on Christmas Day... probably the greatest day of his life...the next day he was scheduled to go in and have his teeth pulled since they are not falling out and he has many doubles. Instead we woke up to him throwing up at 7am and when I called the Vet and they said he probably ate something that didnt agree with him and if he didn't stop in a few hours to bring him in. With in a few hours he began walking into the corners and staggering. We immediately rushed him into the vets office and on the way he began to go into shock. It took 2 hours for the doctors to stablize him enough for us to transport him to a hospital. The x-ray he took showed no blockage and his blood work was not abnormal. So they belief was that he may have ate something that would not show up on an x-ray since his throat did look scratchy and the only way to be certain was for a hospital an hour away to perform a scope test once he was strong enough to go under Anastesia...Ten minutes before we got him to the hospital doing 90mph(the trip took 30minute) he again went into a neurological shock and they said he was non responsive and they were not certain he would make it though the night. It did not look good for our little guy at that point. With many people praying from him and skilled doctors attending to him he did pull through and is slowly getting stronger. Yesterday they said he needed a blood transfusion his blood count dropped because he is bleeding somewhere internally and they are not certain why or where. He was still too weak to undergo any surgical procedures but thank God he did well with the transfer and we could hold him last night. He is still getting stronger as of this morning and today they will take him out of ICU and he will be looked at by the Internal Medicine physicians to re-assess his condition. If any of you Yorkie lovers have shared similair expreience please share them with us...we are feeling very lost and need any positive reassurance we can get. Also please pray for our lil guy Theodore for our lives would be lost with out him and he is only a baby with so much life to be lived. Thank you Cheryl |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Oh no I am so sorry. Is it possible he got in to something toxic and that has casued his illness and internal bleeding? Have they ruled out liver shunt? HGE? I will keep him in my prayers.

| Liver Shunt Yes they finally ruled that out yeaterday and I agree it has to be something toxic that he ate... a few weeks ago him and his little brother Charlie decided they didn't like our wallpaper and removed it while we were at work. So that could of been the start of things. Thank you for your prayers |

| Prayers I will say a prayer for your little one. He will be in my thoughts. Also the paste on the back of wallpaper is made from flour, water and urea. My husbands company used to put the glue on prepasted wallpaper. It isn't really toxic. Hopefully they can determine what is causing this quickly. ----------------------------------------------------- |

| Do you have rat bait anywhere in your house? Gizmo found some as a puppy that I didn't even know was there. Luckily we found him immediately, saw what it was, knew how dangerous it is and got him immediate care. The only reason I'm asking is that I know it causes bleeding...that's how it works. Poor baby! You're all in our prayers.

| If it was something he ate, then it could be that he is bleeding inside the digestive track. Is there any blood in his poo? When you first described his symptoms it sounded so much like a drop in blood sugar. I do hope they find out exactly what caused this. I'll pray for his complete recovery.

| Theodore update as of Tuesday Morning 12/30/08 Thank you everyone for your prayers...Theo is doing much better today and as of last night it is possible he may go home today...We are so excited and his little brother Charlie is jumping for joy along with my daughters and I. But there is some not so good news...on his second bile acid test once he was able to eat on Sunday his liver function showed that the blood supply was not going through the liver and hence the toxic blood went right to his heart and other organs... so now they are pretty certain that we are back to square one with the liver shunt theory and possible ulcer which is causing the internal bleeding. They feel that he is much stronger and able to go home with meds and a special low protein diet then in 2 weeks we needs to have another series of bile acid tests and if the count is still high they will perform the surgery in about 2 -3 months when he is strong enough to undergo the procedure. His doctor said since he is so young he should fully recover and have a long and happy life...So it looks like we will be eating pasta for years to come and steaks are no longer on our menu...but who needs steak when you have two bundle of joys to greet you every day...Thank you again for all your support and prayers it helped my daughters and I so much and most of all Theo our beautiful baby boy... |

| I'm glad he's doing better and I'm glad you have some answers. I am sorry that it's such sad news, but at least there's something that can be done about it. Hug that boy for us!

| Thanks again Yes it is wondeful news and I just got off the telephone with the vet so it is definate that we are picking him up tonight and his stool is now brown...yeaaaa no more bleeding. She really feels this all happened due to the over dose in Protien he has been getting... We pray that no serious damage was done to any of his organs. I am certain the Lord will take care of our little one and he will do just fine with the surgery when the time comes but for now we are ready to spoil him rotten.... BTW how can I get a picture to show with my posting? So far I have only been able to figure out how to add an album. |

| There are detailed instructions in the section called "yorkie pictures" as a sticky, but maybe this will help. First, find a photo you want to use. Then, reduce the size to no bigger than 200 kb. Save it in the smaller size somewhere on your computer that will be easy to find. Then go to make a response to this thread or a new one. After you write your message and still have the box open where you wrote it, scroll down... You will see a button bar that says "manage attachments". Click on one of the browse buttons in that screen that comes up and find your resized photo. You should be able to take it from there. Good luck! I'd love to see a photo of your precious boy.
