| new baby Hi All I am very new to the yorkie world as we just got our baby yesterday and travelled from Scotland to England for her she is only 6 weeks and adorable and very small. The breeder assured me she was fully weaned from her mum on to solid food as the mum lost interest in the pups two weeks prior. I brought her home and she did'nt eat or drink much last night , so today I started hand feeding her and syringing her with water, as she was lethargic I contacted my local vet and he told me to give her water and honey mixed together every 2 hours and keep feeding her by hand every two hours also. This is very very worring, is there anything else I can do to help her. She has been a bit more energetic this evening and has came out of her bed to play for 10 mins, so hopefully she is getting better. I feel angry with the breeders as they should have known better as I know now that 6 weeks tommorow is far too young to be away from her mother and fammiliar surroundings. Any information will be grat thanks. |

| Six weeks is very young for a tiny to be away from mom. But, if you diligently feed her every two hours (soft food is probably best for her right now) along with sugar water (I would use Karo syrup rather than honey), she should be just fine. If you can find Nutrical at your pet store, it is a highly concentrated formula to make sure they don't get hypoglycemic and you can rub it on the gums for more direct absorption, I would get this and use if she refuses food and/or water. Good luck to you and your little one. And welcome to YT!!

| Welcome to YT! You have a very tiny one to care for!! There are many very experienced breeders here that would know how best to care for this little one. I hope she is feeling better already!! Please let us know how she is progressing.

Thanks for all the advice, I contacted my local pet stores and vets and they do not have Nutrical, do you know if its avsilable in the UK? They offered me a canned dog food called AD which is for puppies who are not eating and drinking very well. I am gonna look for a vet that specializes in small breeds. Missy has more energy today and has been running around for a while and more happier tail wagging and all thank God Will keep you posted on her condition . I will post some pics of her when I get the chance shes sooooo cute thanks Frances Missys Mum Last edited by new mum 2 missy; 10-14-2007 at 04:53 AM.

I will keep trying to see if I can get some here but if not that would be great if you sent some over I will reimburse you're cost, I have posted two pics of missy. I was looking through other albums and noticed a pic of a 6 week old puppy and it has its teeth my missy only has her top 2 incisors is this normall at 6 weeks? Please excuse my ignorance. Thanks Frances

| She sounds like she may be doing better but the thing you need to watch is how much activity she is doing because she could be normal running around and playing and just collapse from hypoglycemia so watch her carefully and don't let her run around too long or too much. Keep giving her the karo or honey, and feeding her treat her like a newborn baby.
