| Stupid Mistake with Medicines I don't know if this is the correct thread to post this in, but here goes. My little girl had a rough night last night. She coughed all night, and I was afraid of collapsing trachea. She is 5-1/2 years old. I called the vet this AM, and they could take her at 1:00P. It ends up she has a slight start of collapsing trachea, but she was diagnosed with a tracheal infection. The doc gave me Amoxi-drops, and Hydrocodone tablets. The instructions said to give her 1/4 of a Hydrocodone pill three times a day. My Dad went with me, and Mom is quite ill, and also worried about Sadie. My parents live across the street from me. So, instead of going straight to my house,I drove to my parents' house. I did not want to worry Mom any longer. We gave her some of the Amoxi-drops, and then Mom wrapped the pill in a piece of cheese, and Sadie quickly devoured it. I left Sadie with Mom, and Dad came back to my home to help me with an outside project. An hour later, we went back to my parents' house and Mom said, "Your little girl is not well, she is very lethargic". I took one look at her and freaked out. She was not moving, but in a deep sleep. I called the vet and he said not to worry, that she would come out of it. About three hours later she started to walk around and eat. Granted my mind was messed up with my Mom's illness, etc., but I knew better. Just a word of caution, if your vet does not cut the pills in quarters, halves, etc., please cut them up yourself immediately. It may save you from losing your beloved pet. Thanks. Kate

| Good reminder. Hydrocodone is Vicadin and a very powerful pain killer. Too much can even be lethal. I always have my vet cut Lady's pills anyway. I'm lazy! |

| oh my goodness i'm glad to hear your baby is alright! I take hydrocodone(lortab) because of my back pain (born with spina bifida scoliosis) and it makes me real drowsy so i can just imagine your poor baby.. i hope her trachea gets better too |
