| I was a quilter in my former life (before I hit my head...one too many times). I was taught by several Amish ladies in Shipshewana, IN & learned old school: Piece by machine & quilt by hand till your fingers bleed! I've been lurking for awhile & got the courage to add my this morning. I have some suggestions on construction. The 10" X 10" white square blocks should be cut from the same bolt of fabric if possible & sent to those who want to do a block. If one person cuts the blocks then they will be sure to be pretty much uniform. That will help greatly in assembling the finished product. Also there needs to be 1/4 inch left around the edge for sewing them together. So it needs to be decided if the blocks are to be cut @ 10 1/2 x 10 1/2 that would give a 10" finished block or 10 x10 that would give a 9 1/2 x 9 1/2 inch finished block. I helped with quilts for our church, Relay for Life & our Girl Scout Service Unit. When it came time to assembling & quilting we had to do alot of adjusting of the blocks that came from everyone. It really helps the finished product if all items are uniform to start with. How big do you want it? Wall hanging, Full size, Queen?? There is iron on transfer paper for photos. You have to run the transfer through a printer to get the photo on it & then iron it on the fabric. I've seen it at WalMart & Staples. As for color, what color are Yorkies? There's Black/Blue, Tan/Gold, White, Chocolate, Red, Silver....ooh, pretty basic...not too colorfull. Punch it up with whatever moves you. Variety of color to accent your beautiful babies. Whoever ends up with the finished blocks will use a border & backing to bring it all together. Sounds like a fun winter project.

| I have always wanted to make a quilt but was afraid to take on the task of a whole quilt by myself. I would love to make a square. I love that it will have a little something to represent all those that helped and to represent Yorkietalk, PLUS the money going to help yorkies is just awesome. I would be in for buying tickets as well.

| I like the white, blue & gold idea or tan & blue. I think we need to run this past Admin. before we get started. Their really good at organizing these things. I have an idea of how we can get the pictures on if we can't get the kind of pictures at the mall.

| yorkie quilt I can sew and have made quilts before....I'll donate a block....I'd need a group to actually do the "quilting" part of it...my eyes aren't as sharp as they used to be for "fine" sewing (small even stitches). roxanne in NC

| If someone has a long arm sewing machine or knows someone with one. That would make quilting very fast and inexpensive. I wish that I did, because I would do it in a heart beat. On color I would have to vote against the white. White get so dirty when quilting. The oil from your hands and dust on whatever you are working with. Plus over time it looks dingy. Tan would be good or maybe a Maroon or Forest green. Something to compliment the yorkie colors. I can't wait to make a block.

| Would anyone mind if I buy white fabric to cut the squares? I'll make them 10.5 X 10.5. Anyone who wants to make a square can PM me their address and I'll send them a precut square of the white fabric. (It'll be the weekend before I can get the fabric) In turn, as each person finishes their square, we need a person to put them together for the quilt top. I think when the squares are mailed to that person, we could each put in a $1.00 or $5.00 bill to pay for the backing fabric, lining, and batting so the person who puts the top together can ship to the last person or group to actually quilt it. I know this will need fine tuning - I just want to help in any way possible. Edited ---how about unbleached muslin for the squares?

| What a wonderful idea. Looks like there are several quilter's on here. I love quilts. I have never done quilting but would be more than happy to do a square and if I can be taught do more than one. Let me know. |

| I sent a pm to admin about this and waiting to see. We have some really, good ideas and some very knowledgeable people. Wall quilt or what size? I think if we make a bigger one, it should be a Queen, as I think that is the most popular size and could go on a full size bed also. If we did wall quilt size, we could make more than one. |
