| Search for a vet I like continues.... The one we went to today definitely is not the vet for us. I took Susanah in today because she has been laying around more than normal and she felt kind of warm. I got worried that maybe she was sick. The vet treated me like I was crazy. 1) He rolled his eyes because of the way I was holding her. She doesn't feel good. She had her head and front paws laying on my shoulder and I was holding that part of her with my left hand, my right hand was holding her butt so she didn't slip down. He looked at me and said, "She's not human you know." Yes, I do know. But she is still my baby! 2) He said she was overweight. She is NOT. He said that he should have been able to run his hands along her and feel her ribs. You CAN feel her ribs! You may have to press a little bit, but you can feel them. He said she should not weigh more than 5lbs. According to his scale she weighs 5lbs 13oz. I don't think weighing 13oz more than he thinks she should means she is morbidly obese. I have the batteries for the camera charging now so I can take pics and show ya'll that she is not fat. After that he just asked questions and then explained to me why my answers were wrong or why what I was doing with her was wrong. Do I pick up her up whever she wants me to? Yes, I do. That's WRONG. Does she sleep with me? You bet she does. That's WRONG. I wonder what he would have said if I told him I feed her breakfast with her special pink spoon while she sits ON my kitchen table....lol. So I basically payed some a**hole $75 to make me cry and I still don't know if Susanah is sick or maybe just teething or what.

| I like the Vet I usually have, but last time I took Kalina in for a Health Certificate because she is flying with me on Friday to Florida. I got a different Vet this time and I didn't like him AT ALL. He was very condescending, just like your Vet. I felt that he talked down to me as if I didn't know the first thing about dogs. But the worst part, IMO, is that he didn't even seem to like Kalina. He didn't talk or interact with her at all and I just can't figure out how a VET could be that way. I don't expect him to act as if she's God's gift to the world, but he didn't even talk to her.

| Oh no! What a jerk! Nobody should be made to feel bad when taking their furbaby to the vet. It is definitely better to be overprotective when it comes to your sweet pea's health! You would think a vet would enjoy and appreciate a client that obviously cares so much for her Yorkie (like you )! I hope she starts feeling better. Please keep us updated. Bella is only 11 1/2 weeks, so I don't have too much information, but I'm sure you will get some good advice from others.

| Aw I'm sorry he made you feel like that. I know not all vets think of dogs as "babies" like we do but they shouldn't criticize someone for the way they treat their dog (unless they're treating it badly or doing something that could really harm it). I wouldn't go back there... So far as the overweight issue, 13oz can be quite a bit of extra weight for a tiny dog. You should be able to run your hand pretty lightly over your dogs ribs and be able to feel them. You shouldn't have to press at all to feel them. If so, she may have a little extra weight on her. 13oz overweight at 5lbs isn't going to make her obese or anything, but you don't want her to gain anymore

| This vet didn't act like he liked Susanah very much either. He felt of her, looked in her ears, looked at her teeth. Then treated me like I was some weirdo who worried too much about her dog.

Oh I know it can be a lot on a little dog. Its just they way he made it sound. He made it sound like I was some kind of horrible owner who overindulged and spoiled her baby. OK, well, other than the horrible part thats probably true. You don't have to press very hard, but you do have to apply a little light pressure in order to feel them. I don't want her to gain anymore, but I think if she lost a whole 13 oz then she would look too thin.

| It's a bummer to get one of "those" vets. We went through four before we found one that I really trust. I asked her to run a bile acid test for Ellie just to rule out liver problems (with no real symptoms). She said she would but would be very surprised if anything was wrong. Well, she called yesterday and said the levels are elevated so she is eating crow. She wanted to see Ellie last night (for a blood draw) and I asked if we needed an appointment with her or just a tech. She said with her because she wanted to talk to us. The appointments there are usually 10 minutes long for $23-$38. Well, we got there at 7:10 and at 7:55 she was finishing up with us with NO office fee. I was shocked. This was during normal working hours. Half the time we weren't even talking about Ellie...lol. I was also asking about a low protein diet which she said would be a good idea. She mentioned Hills L/D and I said NO THANK YOU. She didn't give me 100 reasons why I should feed Hills, she asked me why I choose not to because she is always interested when someone has such a strong opinion. Moral of the story...keep looking, you just might find the perfect vet (or move to Michigan). I would be concerned if Ellie acted abnormally tired for more than about 3 days. And I hold Ellie like that too.

| I live in Rome and go to the most fantastic vet practice! It is worth a drive. There are 7 or 8 vets in the practice and one of the vets is on call 24/7 365. So.... if and when my kids have an emergency we visit one of our OWN vets who has their records AND we are not charged an arm and a leg. I love all of the vets, but usually see Dr. Amy. The last time I took Boo the Boxer in for her heart checkup -- Dr. Amy sat on the floor and conducted the exam there so Boo would be comfortable. I can go on and on and on about the wonderful caring service.... One more -- I took Chattie in with her three puppies last year and locked my keys in the car.....I couldn't get anyone at home and hubby was out of town. One of the secretaries took me home to get my keys during her lunch break -- I live almost 10 miles from their office. |

| Before I found Kiwi's vet (who absolutely loves her and thinks she is the greatest thing), I got a vibe from some vets that they don't really condone the whole "small dog" owner who may dress up their dog or carry them like a child. I think some vets may have a problem with that. But that should never make them give substandard care to an animal. I would take my business elsewhere! And I wouldn't be surprised if your baby is teething and not feeling well. Kiwi went through a few days of that. She was really tired and a little cranky. She really likes ice, so I gave her lots of ice and a chilly bone to take the edge off. The vet said we could give baby aspirin, and that helped. She was fine after 3-4 days. But of course I felt better that she had seen her doctor.

| I loved the vet I was going to, but he doesn't like small dogs. Luckily I found a new vet that likes all kinds of dogs, and goes out of his way to give you home remedies so it doesn't cost you an arm and a leg. He also told me if I volunteered for him he wouldn't charge me office visits. I'm thinking about it, but then I'd miss my kids. I'm a stay at home mom, and would hate to leave them even if it were a few hours a day, a couple of days a week.

YT 1000 Club Member | Crystal, Who do you take Ellie to. I am trying to find a vet that isn't going to charge me an arm and a leg , but one that doesn't tell me one thing at one time then something totally different at another time. Plus I definitely want someone who Cares about Maggie and My boys. Maggies Mom |
