100% yorkie or not? - YorkieTalk.com Forums

Hi, I'm new to this site. I'm wondering if there is anyone out there than can help me figure out if my 'yorkie' is 100%. He was sold to me as a purebred but at 7 months old I'm not convinced. Some say yes, including a breeder and some say not a chance, including a breeder.

It makes a difference to me. I've saved for a couple years to make this purchase. I did research breeders, but could not find a local breeder that had pups ready. I chose not to import one because of potential hazards, loss or suffering for the pup in transport. And of course the possibility of getting ripped off. I feel I've been had and just want some peace of mind.

I realize there is no guarantee of weight or ears standing. My questionable signs are:

1. At 7 months he is 12lbs, he doesnt get people food and barely eats the amount eukenuba recommendeds

2. His ears are big and floppy compared to all other yorkies Ive researched

3. He has huge front paws, no kidding

4. His tail is docked but is curled up.

Those are the most obvious. He obviously has yorkie in him but seems to have something else like a lhaso or maltese. Ill try to post pictures, but like I said, this is new to me, hopefully I will find my way back here for feedback.

Once you post a pic people here will be able to help you.. And just because hes 12 lbs and has floppy ears doesnt make him not yorkie.. Alot of yorkies are over standard.. and the breeder may never have taped his ears.. Not sure about the rest of the stuff though.. Can't wait to see a pic of him!

You might be trying to post one that's too big. But if that's your Yorkie in your Avatar, he looks like a Yorkie to me. He's CUTE!!!

I think he is just an oversized variety!

Your pictures may be too large. Try resizing them to a smaller size. Then go to manage attachments under submit post, and click on it. It'll let you browse your pictures, and upload them. I just got a new Biewer and he is 13 pounds, but he's all Biewer. Yorkies like people come in all different sizes. Do you have any papers on him like AKC, etc.?

I would not worry at all! just love your yorkie for who they are! i have an 11 month old yorkie that is almost 15 pounds. when i took him to get his first grooming when he was 5 months the lady there was REALLY rude! she has a little yorkie and she told me that mine is way to big, she asked if i had papers, and told me i was charged way to much for the size that he is! like everyone tells you their ALL different shapes and sizes just like ppl!

If he is the one in the av picture, he looks all Yorkie to me, some are just bigger, but they are still Yorkies.

Looks all yorkie to me.I have two big boys 13lbs and 18lbs.I have noticed that the "bigger" yorkies have floppy ears.

He is a sweetheart and 100% yorkie!!

He is adorable. I think that he is 100% but just a bigger one. I was at the vet earlier and I saw the most beautiful little yorkie, he was 4 months old and weighed 5.7 lbs, he had gained 2 pounds in 3 weeks, and his feet was huge too, and he was 100% yorkie too-they will just be a little bigger, but just as sweet and adorable.

Thank you, he is very cute, he has quite the personality and energy. We love him regardless of size. If I'm not sure of his breed 100% then I have a difficult time defending him, if that makes sense.

We don't have papers for him, is there a way to have him registered?

I'm still working on pic posting...

In looking at your avatar and the picture of him as a puppy, he looks all yorkie to me. I bet he's just on the bigger side, that's all.

I'm convinced. It may seem like it didnt take much, but I trust yorkie owners opinions. I look forward to learning more from this site as well as posting

My Yorkie sounds just like your description. I met his parents who are 6 and 7 pounds. We chose the most curious, largest of the litter (there were six!!!!). We now have a very happy, healthy, active 8 month old Yorkie who weighs almost 12 pounds and can walk for 7 kilometres and beg for more. My husband is thrilled by his size because he wanted a huge dog. There are times I have pangs for a 6 pounder but I wouldn't trade my Ziggy for anything.
