| It is horrible to see something like that!! Call the police department EVERY DAY to report speeding on this road. Eventually they will post a car there to check. We live on a main thoroughfare - the speed limit is 25mph like all the other subs - and people fly down our street between 45 and 50mph all the time. We do have a police officer who lives a few houses down and regularly parks his care in his driveway. That helps somewhat but the only thing that slows people down (temporarily) is when there is a car posted near the stop sign (that people also regularly blow through).

| OMG! Is the dog going to be O.K? Maybe try informing your police station and they can patrol the area more, or set something up. Usually people won't speed on roads where cops are known to hide out. Please let us know if you here anything about the poor dog, and if the guy caught the idiot who did this. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh, honey, I'm so sorry you had to see that! Is the dog okay, did he survive? That is so devastating. There were alot of speeders on one of our cross streets - I think there were enough complaints and finally 3 speedbumps were put in.

| Oh the poor dog. Did it survive? I would not want to have witnessed anything like that. I hope they get the SOB who sped away. My daughter got stop signs on her street several years ago. It is a very heavy traveled street daily because cars use it to get to the train station in the am for the city and speed down it because they are usually late. She got a recorder and interviewed every child, parent and bus driver on the street for weeks. Then she got her movie camera and waited from 6am until the school buses left and recorded all the cars and speeders. Of course the local police are never to be found. She took all the evidence to a local board meeting accompanied by her neighbors and showed them the movies, and interviews. She got not only one sign but two at the cross road across from her house. Her husband gave her a STOP SIGN party and decorated the house with stop signs and invited everyone to celebrate the night away the day the signs went up. |

| That is horrible! I can't believe the person didn't even stop. We have a major problem with people speeding around here too. The bad part is, it's an ongoing problem that people are aware of, yet they let their animals and KIDS!!! play in the road, do whatever. It's crazy! It's not a problem near us because we live in a circle, but on the main streets in the neighborhood...forget it! I always creep because I never know who ar what is going to run out in front of the car! Here are some steps we've taken that have at least *helped*: First, call your local police department OFTEN...encourage others to do the same. Eventually, they WILL get tired of you calling and will check up on things. Secondly, contact your city council and/or attend a meeting. They don't want their name to look bad and want to be elected again...they don't want a bunch of angry citizens on their case because they didn't give attention to areas where it was needed. Keep records of your efforts. Third, if you still don't get results, call your local news. See if you can get them to do a story...explain the injuries and deaths that have been caused and that your pleas for help have been ignored. They will jump on the chance...especially with you being near a school. It's one thing for the city leaders to look bad to their own citizens...they certainly don't want to look bad to an even larger area. Lastly, put on oversized sunglasses, take your hairdryer to the street, and act like you are clocking people. Maybe if you present yourself as a lunatic, they will be too worried to speed. Good luck! | Sadly, I don't think enough people care about animals to listen to you. Try a different strategy. Focus on children getting hit by a car. Use the fact that many animals have bit hit and killed and it's only a matter of time before a child gets killed. That will get people's attention and you can get something done about it.

| So sorry you had to see that. It is good you are talking about it. Witnessing a traumatic event can have a bigger impact on you than people realize. Hope you feel better soon. Taking action the way you are will also help you feel better!

Just think about how you communicate the problem. When you are fighting for animals, people tend to disregard you. Make the safety of children the main focus and they will always listen. Its sad, but sometimes this is what you have to do.

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | Oh my gosh....this just makes me sick. I am SO SORRY that you had to see something like this This is just awful! I know I for one would be traumatized if I witnessed something like that. Thank goodness the dog is still alive though. That poor baby There is a guy that lives down at the end of my street and he just FLYS - I'm talking 60 mph or more going down a street with KIDS on it - I can barely see his truck pass by it goes so fast. Every time I see that I just CRINGE!!!! If I were you I would call the city (and try to get others too as well) and see about them putting speed bumps on your street. This is just so uncalled for!!
