| why do females... "hump"? I am curious as to what would make a spayed female hump other dogs? no, maggie isn't humping...but i have witnessed this happening today and it just kinda made me laugh LOL

| Most do it out of dominance.

| I would like to know this too....why do they do that? I know some do it as "dominance", but I thought that was just mounting?

| i don't think she is doing it for dominance...but who knows. she is very nonchalantly mounting him, ever so gracefully, and just humping a little. then he walks away and goes to his little corner. then when he lays down, she will casually walk over, mount him again, hump a little, then lay down. very funny, actually

| I thought if it was dominance, they just mounted, and then got over it?

| I'm sooo embarrassed to say this..but I must confess, I have a little humper. Daisy has this toy that is called her "girlfriend". (It's a pink stuffed dog that's about as big as her..no, I haven't taken pics..) She tends to "hump" her while she's playing with it. I have denied it numerous times to hubby but he laughs and tells me she is indeed humping it. From time to time, I will catch her trying to hump my leg but always make a point to scold her and let her know that it's certainly "NOT okay to hump momma's leg". It's definately a dominance thing...and I don't like it!! This is not funny!

Donating YT 11K Club Member | i figured it was out of dominance cuz London would do it to Teddy and try to Sophia but now lately she is doing it much more now that she has her heat, she even did it to her loofa dog for the first time yesterday but im wondering is it for dominance? cause she bites at it and is all rough with it when she does it, i laugh but then i stop her and she runs away from it.

| http://www.petplace.com/dogs/humping/page1.aspx this is good reading I think you all are right.. If she is humping a toy it is to stake claim to it as hers.. Even if she is the only dog they will still do this some times. |

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | Really I have never heard of a girl spraying?? Do they do this even if they are spayed?? Bella must not do it as she is a avid hiker unless they spray in the hiking position? now Im all curious lol

| My alpha female goes around the yard and pees on top of where all of the other dogs have peed. Takes her awhile to make the rounds. She just wants to make sure that no one is mistaken that it is her yard. She does not mark in the house though. |

Donating YT 11K Club Member | Yea i just started noticing that when i take her for walks right way she will pick up one leg up and pee and keep walking. At first i thought it was so that she wouldnt step on her pee but she even does it and no pee comes out sometimes just like my male. The thing is she only does it outside and not inside at all. I figure maybe cause she's in heat she's trying to leave a scent for males or something, idk. She will do it on grass and at trees
