| Dogs can taste food... right? So my boyfriend and my best friend were over at my house, and we decided to go get some frozen custard. Paddington was being horribly behaved, and I thought that it would just get him more wound up if we took him, so I laughed and said "You can't come because you've been such a stinker!" She laughed and said "You wouldn't bring him anyway... right?" I told her he loves ice cream, but he only gets it every once in a while because I watch what he eats very carefully. She said that it mustn't matter, and why would I waste my money on buying him ice cream- dogs can't taste things..... WHAT????? I just can't believe that dogs don't taste things. She said they mustn't be able to taste things because her room mate's dog eats tissues and paper etc. Tell me that she's the crazy one, not me! -O

| Hahahah!! That's the silliest thing I have ever heard! I'll just tell you that Miko can taste the difference between red apple and green apple. He will not even touch red apple, not even a little piece and will turn his nose up at it, but goes wild over green apple. There are many other examples, but this is just the one that pops out at the moment. Oh my!! The fact that her roommates dog eats paper is because dogs love to shred paper for some reason, not because they can't taste. You're definitely not the crazy one.

| That's a foolish idea! Of course they can taste things...if they couldn't it wouldn't matter what kind of food you gave them!

| Okay, that's what I thought... I told her how Paddington prefers one brand of food over another, and how he goes nuts over anything cheese flavored or peanutbutter flavored. She looked at me like I was CRAZY for thinking such things! (well, she was nice enough not to point out that he had just eaten an unknown animal's poo before we left... I wouldn't have known what to say about that in re to taste....) She also said that dogs eat things too fast to taste them. I don't think that is true of all dogs (maybe hers...) because I have seen Paddington savoring he treats during training!!!! Maybe that is just my imagination trying to make him more human... -O

| I've never heard that dogs can't taste....although I dont' think mine DOES taste...he inhales EVERYTHING.....canned dog food, dry dog food, any type of chicken or veggies or fruits I give him, egg whites...oh... not to mention cigarette filters that he picks up from heaven only knows WHERE since nobody smokes anywhere near our home, (otherwise, how would he be able to swallow them WHOLE without me knowing he had something in his mouth )...and you can imagine how I know this, LOL. My uncle's dog would do anything for green beans, and he won't act like that for any other food, so they must be able to taste!
