Sorry! This is the last question I'll ask about my bear being neutered (maybe)! He just got back from the vet, and I am wondering now if I should give him some nutrical???

Odds are he won't be up to eating anything. They are usually really groggy still. I would just let him relax.

actually, he ate 1/6 cup of food (the amount the vet said to give him) and is chewing like mad on his bully stick. They told me he was hyper shortly after waking

leave it up to my bear... he is SO hyper all the time! I'm trying to keep him in the bedroom where his bed is, but every time I have to leave the room to answer the phone or use the restroom or whatever, he sneaks out behind me and tries to run down the stairs!!!

He hasn't eaten anything (besides that little bit of food) since 7:00 last night, and he is so active! That is why I was wondering about the nutrical. But I'm also afraid that it will make him more hyper, which is the last thing he needs now! Thanks!

LOL sounds like a champ. As long a he has eaten then don't bother with the nutrical. He seems fine to me. Just watch him for a while longer.

When Conner was neutered (about 10 months ago), he was also hyper when he got home. I thought he would sleep for a while and I would get some things done. Fat chance!! He was even released before they said he would be able to come home. They said he could go home about 5. I called at 3 to see how he was, and they said I could pick him up.

They told me not to feed him for a couple of hours after he got home. I gave him some hamburg and rice (just a little bit every couple of hours) and made sure he drank water. He came through like a champ, but I could not keep him from jumping off the bed or the sofa.

As long as he is eating a little bit, I would not bother with the nutrical.

Let us know how he is doing.

I gave Mojo some chicken and rice and then some kibble either late that night or in the morning (shoot, I can't remember), but he was fine. I would watch the drinking though...the vet told me to make sure he drinks plenty of water after we brought Mojo home...I'm not sure why, but we didn't have any problems.

Mojo was hyper when we picked him up (dropped him off at 9 got him at 1), but when we got home and put his little onesie on, he slept for a long time.

He was totally back to normally the next day.

They tell you to give tons of water because it helps being as they are taking pain killers and antibiotics.

Shoot I remember the next day having to try to keep Lex still...yeah fat chance. These guys are way more resilient that most people think.

Trace didnt take pain killers or antibiotics when he got neutered. It was like nothing ever happened to him. I was worried the next morning when it was swollen up like a ping pong ball so we took him back in and the swelling went down and everthing was fine.

well I'm glad that I'm not the only one who's dog acted as if nothing happened! He is running around like crazy! I can't keep him still as hard as I try! I thought he was weird.

I always give him as much water as he wants, and he's been drinking tons. I figure he must need it if he keeps drinking it. I thought maybe at first it was because his bully stick made him thirsty (this one stinks, and smells salty) but I don't think that is it anymore. And every time I put down his water dish he drinks it like he hasn't had water in days.

Isn't it funny how they can be so fragile one moment, and so "tough-guy"the next.

I'm glad he is doing so well after his surgery! With boys, you probably don't have to worry as much about them being active right after the surgery. With girls you have to limit their activity so that incision has time to heal - since it is an invasive surgery that requires actually cutting through muscle and then stitching it back up. Lacy was too active too soon after being spayed and tore her stitches inside - she had to be reopened and stitched back up. But with a boy the incision is really only skin deep and smaller so not really a risk of them hurting themselves by being active right after.

Yeah, that is what I figured. I remember when I had my cats, I had one girl and one boy. Misty (the girl) seemed to take more time to bounce back than Amadeus (the boy). They kept Misty a bit longer for extra observation, but Amadeus got to come home the very next morning, and he was fine. She laid around for a couple days. It makes sense if you think about the anatomy, I guess.
