Is it possible to have nice Yorkie hair in that weather?? -frustrated- - YorkieTalk.com Forums

And the summer hasn't even started yet... We've been haing close to 90 degrees and humidity is soaring in NY, my pup doesn't even have that long hair, maybe 2-3 mere inches, but after spending over and hour last night AND another one this morning combing those mats out, what else can I do? He had a bath and was combed all over thoroughly just 2 days ago. Seems mats come once I put the comb down...

. He's on good dry-only food with coat supplement (his hair IS nice and shiny but oh mats so easily

)... He gets vitamins and yogurt drops. I have detanglers and Cowboy Magic.. Is there anything I'm missing before I have to resort to cutting him short? I want to take him hiking and beach, but just the thought of combing through that mess later is killing me....

what type of shampoo do you use....i used to have that probably...until i tried out Minksheen....it leaves their hair silky and shiny for up to 7 days...kekek...and it is a lot easier to manage...jmo...good luck!

I really don't have any suggestions or can help you. I live in TX and it gets really really (I mean really) hot. At the beginning of May the temp. reached 110, I believe. Somehow, I don't think the weather have anything to do with it though. Buttercup's hair is about 7-8 inches long, maybe longer, and I have never had a problem with his hair matting. Maybe someone else can better answer your questions.

If you are using a harness, that could be it. Tia used to get the worst matts in her "armpits" because we were using a harness that was made of the typical material. I ordered a silk one from Chattiesmom and haven't had a problem since. I've also started using conditioner when I bath her (she gets a bath once a week, with a thorough brushing before she gets wet) and have noticed that her hair is silkier (it could also be because I have switched her food to Canidae recently).

He went to play in the yard with the neighbor's dog yesterday and came back all matted and dirty... Not only where the harness is, under his chin, on the sides, even on the hind paws... Funny, but the armpits never really mat. I'm seriously debating having him in a short puppy cut for summer...

My Jewels matts too but doesnt if shampoo her once a week with minksheen then condition with Pantene. I leave the pantene on 20 minutes. It leaves the hair really soft. Another thing you can do is comb the haiir through when you have the conditioner on. Try it it has worked for me and both my dogs have cotton coats and Jewels has a long coat

If you use a good shampoo and conditioner it helps alot. Also the key is brush, brush and brush some more. I also use a detangler and leave in conditioner too.
I wish you the best with the coat, I know it takes work and sometimes I think about cutting his coat too. I just can't do it since its so soft and silky.

Thx I knew you would get a kick out of that picture,lol...Your furbaby is adorable and I bet with a good shampoo and conditioner you can keep the coat long too.

i think the mod schnauzer cut is the best you get to keep the long hair but its easy to deal with

Yes he was in tons of wind,lol!!! We enden up going to a different beach that day, cause it was way to windy for him but it gace us all a great laugh first!!!

I had that problem also... until I took my girl to the groomer and had her undercoat striped. And then I purchased a Le Pooch brush and Volia... NO MORE TANGLES. And no more MATTS!!
