Puppy food? My 12 week old baby came home on wednesday. He won't eat any of the food the breeder was supposedly feeding him before and I was worried about him not eating so I started to cook for him and also gave him some baby food. He still will not eat the dry food but my mom got him some can food and He seems to like it. My question is will I have to continue feeding him canned food, I had planned on feeding him regular dry food. Thanks for your help in advance.

Ilovemybear, don't worry if your baby is not eating the dry food...sometimes my 16 week old baby doesnt eat dry food for days. I think you should always leave it out for her and she will eat it when she wants it. I just leave the dry down all day and then feed her the wet food at meal times. I also put some cut up pieces of cheese in her wet food and feed her chicken, apples and yogurt sometimes. She loves it...dont worry about her not eating the dry. She will eventually eat it, she might still be getting used to her new home. Good luck with her!!!!

If he is eating the canned food now I think you'll be okay. I've posted this before but when we got Ranger the breeder was feeding him Mighty Dog chicken and rice, she told us that he got sick eating anything else . So that's what we fed him for about a week before I went and bought Science Diet Puppy chicken and rice. I added about two tablespoons to his Mighty Dog and he didn't even seem to notice, nor did he get sick. Over a week I had switched him to the Science Diet and he had no problems. After a month I bought Science Diet Puppy dry food and began adding that to his wet food. Slowly we weaned him off the canned food and a few weeks later he was eating the dry food by itself and wasn't being picky. If he gets hungry he will eat, Ive noticed lately that Ranger doesn't eat as much as he used to. We give him breakfast and sometimes he wont eat it until its almost time for his dinner. At first I was scared but he eats all the food when he's hungry so that makes me feel better. Good Luck with your pup!!

My two now don't have trouble eating anything , but my first yorkie wouldn't eat all the time. The breeder told me to put a couple of tabelspoons of cottage cheese in it and he would eat it. Like others have said it takes time to adjust to his new surrounding. Sometime they are just little toots and will eat when the want to. I do free feed all of mine. Congradulations on you new puppy............Cindy

You can try to mix in just a little bit of wet food into his dry food, sometimes they will pick out the dry food, but if they get used to it, they may start to eat the dry food. Just make sure they eat everyday.

| Congrats on the new baby!! Toto refused dry food until she was several months old. I believe part of the problem was going through teething, her little gums were sore and the dry food was so hard. After we discovered the Royal Canin Yorkshire 28 she began to eat a little dry food. She has been on that ever since ... but still doesn't want it every day ... then the next day that may be all she wants!! Go figure!! Let's all face it ... they are every one spoiled rotten, picky, very smart little creatures and they lead us around by the nose!! Keep us updated on your baby ... we like to hear all the details!!
