Hi

Recently ive been considering getting a yorkie, Ive wanted to get one for a good few years now... I like the smaller yorkies which i have read are called 'tea cup yorkie' but ive also read that this isn't the correct term for them

what are the small yorkies called?

I want to get one similar to this one:

Also, with all yorkies does their hair grow really long

The small yorkes are just called yorkies. There is no such thng as a teacup. Unscrupulous breeders use that term as a marketing ploy to charge high prices for small yorkies. Yorkies hair gets very long unless you keep it cut short

If you search around th forum here you will find answers to many of your question.

I give my Yorkie a shorter hair cut. Many do keep it long though. Its up to you.

As the people above replied, there is no such thing as a "tea cup" Yorkie. And I think it's safe to say that all our dogs were as small and adorable as the one in your pic at one point. It's very hard to tell how big they will grow up to be. If their mom and dad are both small, that could be an indicator, but they could still get big too. My Sukoshi is only 3 pounds, 1 ounce at 8 months old (and the vet says she's chunky and needs to lose weight), so she'll stay a tiny one, but there are many others who get larger. The breed standard is 4 - 7 pounds. Do a search here on YT and you can find lots of answers!

Like Chachi said, smaller yorkies are just yorkies that are on the smaller side of the standard. Be careful when you look for a small yorkie, it is important to find a breeder that does not irresponsibly breed tiny dogs, or you could end up with a sick puppy.

Almost all yorkies grow long coats, but it depends on the quality of the yorkie, and the type of coat.

I agree...don't be sorry! It's better you do your research now than after the fact and end up regretting your purchase because you didn't know X or you didn't know Y. It's a big decision, and it's good you're educating yourself before making it!

I would stay away from breeders who advertise "teacup" yorkies, as there is no such thing. In my opinion, that's just a scam for some breeders to justify what they are charging for the smaller pups.

Their hair can grow really long or you can keep it cut shorter, whatever you prefer. I let my yorkie's hair grow longer in the winter, and I will take him for a summer cut soon.

The main thing to look for is the health of the puppy. Make sure you get a health guarantee. My puppy is pretty tiny (3 1/2 lbs.), but he is very healthy. Some of the smaller ones have health issues.

There's tons of info on this site, but feel free to ask questions! Don't be afraid to ask! I think it's great that you're researching before buying one. That's what I did too, and it has helped me so much! Good luck!
