| Should I or not? Ok, my Brea has Leggs Perthe disease. She sees the surgeon next week. She is going to be needing surgery. I've already spent over $250.00 on x-rays, exams and pain meds - maybe even more. The surgery will be at least $1,000. Should I tell the breeder about this? I know she told me that she does not have the mom any more so she isn't going to be breeding the same two again. Does she have any responsibility in this at all? Brea is only 6 months old - doesn't the breeder have some responsibility for diseases like this? Maybe not... I just don't know, that's why I'm asking. I'm not out to make trouble for her or anything, but I'm thinking of calling her after getting a final opinion form the surgeon. What do you think? |

| I am so very sorry to hear about precious little Brea's ailment. Please give that sweet little girl a hug from me. It certainly wouldn't hurt to talkwith the breeder. |

| You could call her and let her know what is happening, and see what she says. Maybe she is willing to help you out on bills. |

| I'm pretty sure that is a congenital disease...I would definitely tell the breeder...Your baby is only 6 months old and there should have been a contract that had at least a 1yr health guarantee against genetic diseases/defects...

Thanks Cindy - Brea says thanks for the hug and here's one back at you! I picked up some more pain meds for her yesterday. There is only one kind they can give her cause of her size and it doesn't seem to help all that much, but I'm hoping it will take the edge off. It's such a teeny, tiny amount cause of her weight. Makes me wonder what will happen when she has the surgery.... She's looking forward to getting another one of your wonderful harnesses!! Last edited by omega; 04-21-2007 at 05:12 AM. | |

| I would call her and see what she is willing to help with as far as vet bills, Also maybe see if she will let the person who bought the mother know so she wont try to breed and sell the puppies without getting them tested!. Sorry to hear about baby Brea, Hopefully she is on her way to recovery very soon!

| I would definitly let the breeder know, like others said, maybe she can help with the bills. And that way she can make sure that whomever carries the gene isn't bred again. I hope your baby has a speedy recovery!
