Help...... What To Do For The Best

I Am At The End Of My Tether.................................

I Really Need Some Advice - My Harvey Is 13 Months Old And Weighs 3.5 Lb. He Has Always Been A Fussy Little Eater, Which Worries Me Sick. I Have Tried Him On All Kinds Of Different Foods, As I Want To Give Him A High Quality Food. For The Last 2-3 Months He Has Been Eating Ceaser Refined In A Pouch, Warmed Up, Which He Really Seemed To Enjoy, I Know This Is Not Very Good But It Was All He Would Eat So I Had To Continue With It. Now He Wont Eat It Or Anything Else I Try. He Will Eat A Scrambled Egg, But I Only Give That To Him About Twice A Week (not Sure If It Is Ok To Give Him More).

I Went Out Yesterday And Bought Him Some Other Foods - 60% Meat, With Rice And Vegetables Etc. He Sniffed It And Walked Away.

I Am So Worried As He Is Only Little And He Needs To Eat - Even On A Good Day He Will Only Eat His Meal At 7-8 Pm.

I Would Really Appreciate Any Advice You Can Offer Me - As I Dont Know What To Do Next. Other Than His Eating, He Is A Joy, So Playful And Healthy And Full Of Fun.

I would feed him what he eats. Scrambled eggs are okay for them, even every day. My girls get yogurt daily and I home cook for them for their dinner meal. Just make sure you are using quality ingredients, don't add spices or butter (though a little olive oil is okay), boil meat, steam veggies. Since he likes soft food, home cooking might be the way to go for you. You can make a large batch and freeze weekly portions.

Thanks for that Jodie..... He has me so worried, i have even offered him roast beef and turkey and he is still not too keen. I think I will definatly consider your suggestion, like you said i could do it in batches and freeze it!!

At least i can offer him more eggs now too - i will get him some yogurt as well, he loves fruit also.

My last yorkie was bigger than Harvey and he would eat anything you put down for him, but not this little monster.......

You might even try brown rice with cooked hamburger (no spices), mix it together. You can freeze in baggies. Also rice and cut up cooked chicken. It might just be store bought food just isn't gonna do the trick? Good Luck, it will all work out. Generally, dogs will not starve themselves, they will eat when they get hungry enough (in this case, I understand it is different because these dogs are soo tiny, where as nature didn't intend for that) so you need to be a bit more careful. He is adorable and just keep up your great work with him.

Thanks for your suggestions, i will do him some home cooked food, my only concern was about the suppliments he will be missing (as i thought dog food had all the necessary suppliments in)

I thought that soft food was bad for their teeth? Can anyone offer me information on that?

I recently started my dogs on merricks. They are on dry, but I also the canned and they love it (the canned) which is surprising as they are soooo picky. good luck.

I wouldn't give him soft foods every day, this will ruin his teeth and gums. Try taking him for a long walk, a little jogging included, and then give him good old fashioned dry food with a little boiled water to soften the kibbles. If he doesn't eat, don't worry. He won't starve, his survival instincts are too strong for that. As soon as he eats the kibble though, try to give it to him dry once a day. You need to look out for the health of his teeth.

Soft foods are very bad for their teeth and gums. As well as their digestive system. Ask any vet, and they will tell you. Soft foods are okay once a day when you feed twice or more times, but otherwise stick to dry. They actually don't need anything besides dry food.
