| Help What is this please help So i walked Rocky last night and when i was watching tv i noticed him licking his paw alot i always wipe his paws when we come from a walk. But i saw him going at it so i take to the sink and wash his paw and start inspecting it. Low and behold i see his little nail the one that hangs higher above his paw dont know the name of that. But around the edge where his nail grows from it's red and swollen and i guess it bothered him that's why he was licking it alot. I dont know what is going on im guessing he has an infection i was trying to take a pic of it but he was moving so much i couldnt. I am calling the vet to make an appointment for him and see what this is. Just wanted to know if anyone else's pup had this happen to them??????

| That's the dew claw...most breeders remove them when the puppies are just a few days old but some only do the ones on the back legs. It sounds like he may have caught it on something and irritated it...might not hurt to have it checked out. My Jo-Jo has the dew claws on his front legs and I wish he didn't. |

| I had a schnauzer that got his dew claw caught in a fence and when he pulled his paw to get loose it started bleeding. Now I always make sure when I get their nails clipped they clip that nail too so it doesn't get too long and curl up. I hope your baby is ok.

Missing Yoshi Everyday! Donating Member | yes that is the dew claw...always remember to clipped those nails also..because it can grow and dig into their skin...causing it to irritate and maybe painful... get it checked out...and good luck!

| Get it checked out asap. My friend has a chi and his dew claw actually grew into his skin and he had to have surgery to clean out the infection and have the dew claws removed. And my friend was careful to clip his nails often, but his dew claw just grew too fast and she didnt catch it until it was infected. |
