I was wondering about how your smaller yorkies do with stairs.

Xena is almost 6 months old and she cannot climb the stairs in our house. I have tried to coax her just to see if she could but as soon as she accidentally got up on the first stair she was terrified and jumped down. Now she won't even try. The thing is, I don't want her to be able to climb them - I prefer she stay down stairs. She is supposed to be about 4 lbs (but you never know).

Do your smaller yorkies climb up and down stairs?

It sounds funny but I actually spent an afternoon demonstrating to my Yorkie
when she was young how to climb up and down the stairs as she was so terrified.After a few hours I finally gave up and was convinced it was something she just wasn't going to do.Later on that day she surprised me and did it on her
own.She was probably about 6 months old and at that time weighed about 3lbs.
Now she weighs about 5lbs.Sometimes I wonder if it was a good idea as she
loves to go downstairs and steal my son"s stuffed toys.

they learn on their own ...believe me. wasn't long before mine was flying p our stairs. so fast sometimes it scares me. is it flying if you miss a step now and then??? LOL

i think morgan started going upstairs around 5 months and it took her a little longer to go down them. now she rips up and down them like their are nothing, tho occasionally while going upthe stairs she will miss the step and then stand there like 'whoa, how'd that step get away from me'. i too thought it would be better for her not to do stairs but carrying her up and down to go potty 4-5 times a day when she was a puppy got tired real quick, especially when she thought me going to pick her up was a game and she'd run away.

My little girl just started going up the stairs by herself a week or two ago. She just finally got how to do it from watching her sisters and can go up them like a pro (she's 23 weeks). She just can't go down them yet. Seems like that is always the hardest for them to learn.

princess used to be scared too when i first brought her home but she eventually learned how to and she now goes crazy running up and down

Nessa is so Tiny i worry about the stairs in my house too, the boys run and up down all day LOL and i see nessa wants to soooo badly but she just cant yet and she seems scared, going up for her is easy .. i believe when she is ready she will do it, im still always going to be a nervous mommy LOL

Jeter is almost 2 and weighs 9 pounds. He refuses to go down the stairs. Up is no problem, but he will cry at the top to come down. I have tried showing him, but he just looks at me to pick him up and carry him. Maybe he is just lazy??? hmmm..But then again, he won't use the stairs to get out of the bed either, there he just jumps.

Grayson will not go up or down the steps. Put him at the bottom to come up and he starts shaking, put a treat 2 steps a way and he just looks at. I will lift up his little hiney and move and make him move up a step but he won't do it on his own. Silly doggie!! The cats fly up and down them but he just watches

I have a little box covered with towel..She climbs up and down....

I picked the box that is good with her size..

I used to have an 60 pound Chow that could never go up or down stairs. I wold carry her all the time.

My Shih tzu Harley use to be scared to go down stairs until Jinny went into heat. It only took him a few days to figure that one out. LOL

Jinny gets on Kaylee's bed using the bean bag at the end of the bed. I pick Jazzy up and down I am thinking of getting him steps but I have a tall bed and not sure it will work.

Mine not only climb stairs, but they race up and down them with ease. I taught my first yorkie how to climb his doggie steps and he has graciously taught the other 2 how to do it like he does.

They learn on their own. When I got my girls it was the same way, but they eventually got brave and now they even make it a game of chase up and down.

Is funny Phoebe think is a game too, she always win with us in the way up she wants the high five with both paws
